The first attack (On Hold)

Chapter 12: Finally

Grandma finished eating and started telling us the story.

"Listen carefully, this is important. In some parts of the world, people believe in Kaechis. I am one of these people. Once in several thousands of years, they have a possibility to come to earth. Many would call them vampires, which they are not. Kaechis only bring destruction and death. What you have seen so far is only the beginning, it will get much worse."

"As I said, they can only come to earth once in a few thousand years. This year is unfortunately the time where they can come. It is their chance. There is one chance though. When they invade earth, 1-5 people are chosen. The chosen ones have a chance to stop the invasion and make the creatures return home."

"Did you know why you were unharmed the first day? Why everyone else disappeared and you didn't? That's because you two are the chosen ones. The Kaechis can't hurt you for a day, enough time for you to get ready."

"There is only one way to stop them. It is your mission. We don't have much information left from the times the Kaechis were defeated before. I know just what you have to do, nothing more."

"You must get to a special temple farther north. I will give you a special book. The book will have empty pages. That is why you need to get to the temple. Inside, you will need to wait for the moon to come out. You will ned to put the book in the middle of the temple, it has no roof, and let it take in the moonlight. After that, words will appear on the pages. Don't read it aloud. You will fail if you do so.

"You will have to go to the place where everything started, the place where you live. Go into the middle of chaos and take the book with you. Once there, you will have tor read the only pages with the text, some will be blanc. On those pages with text, there will be a spell written in a secret language not many know. After reading it, the Kaechis will be banished. I don't know what happens after." She finished

"My mind is almost blown." Groaned Filippa " That was so much information"

"I know." I said to her " Thank you grandma, we really needed the information. Could you also show the temple on a map? And give us a vehicle?" I asked grandma

"Yes, you have a long journey before you. I will help you in any way I can to prepare you. You are the only way to save the world."

We didn't know how late it was. We sat there a long time, planning our journey to the temple. Grandma agreed on giving us a car and a map but she wouldn't come with us.

The temple wasn't that far away. We got a map with a cross for the place and a car. Grandma didn't have any food so we gave her some and took a little from the upper floor and neighbouring houses. We were now ready for the journey.

We knew we could die, we knew we could fail but we had to try. The world was in our hands. Only we could save it.

I didn't know how I handled so much pressure on me. I just did. Maybe I was meant for this. Maybe I was the best candidate to save the world. Or maybe not. No one will know.

We decided that we needed some sleep before driving away. Filippa already had our bags packed and I readied the place where we would sleep. We slept upstairs, we didn't want to get grandma in more danger. Just to be close to us could be dangerous.

"You know, I'm glad it was you. I wouldn't want to be here with anyone else." Said Filippa, surprising me

"I also think so. At least we can have a reunion and be friends before we die, if we die. You taking Margaret feels so distant. I won't care anymore. It doesn't matter now." I said

"Oh, you sound almost like an adult"

"Well, this has threatend our lives and made us grow up faster. I think you have grown up a little too."

There was a moment of silence where none of us knew what to say.

Until Filippa said something.

"It feels like school was several years ago. We have gone through so much since then" Filippa said "They say time goes faster when you have fun. That means we had fun?"

I started laughing and she looked at me as if I was mad.

"I don't think they had been in a situation like this" I said to her, still laughing

Filippa started laughing too and soon we were laughing very hard and couldn't stop.

After that, we just continued talking for a while until we were tired. That night, I fell asleep more relaxed than ever.
