He gave out a thunderous yowl which made all the cats know what it meant. A Clan meeting. He bounded into camp and onto the Low Branch as his warriors and apprentices and WolfClan and ViperClan visitors gathered to hear his words. "Cats of TimberClan, WolfClan, and ViperClan. I have just received news of cats on our border." He announced. Murmurs filled the camp.
"Quickfoot may have an idea." Echostream meowed, flicking her tail to the light brown tabby, who was already weaving his way through the gathered cats.
"They're cats from Twolegplace judging by the scents I've been picking up. I've been seeing some half eaten birds lately. And I've been solitary patrolling frequently." Quickfoot explained. Then went on to say he found a collar hanging from a bush.
"Kittypets!" Crouchfoot snarled.
"Prey thieves!" Flintnose shrieked.
Bravestar silenced the now loud cursing cats another thunderous yowl. "We will patrol all of our borders. See a stranger, send them away like a kit crying for its mother." He ordered. Leaopardheart was on the branch she usually sat. "On patrols, it is important you have your partner. Listen to what they say and do what they do. More than one enemy attacks, that's what two fighting cats are for, attack side by side. That's why you all have been trained. Anyone who has seen anything, come to me or Bravestar." She meowed.
"That is all. Get some rest. Tomorrow we train." Bravestar meowed as cats were already departing, muttering to each other in low voices. He padded down from the branch and sighed. Feeling his mate lick his ear, he slightly felt better giving a purr and into his den to rest.By the time the sun was up, cats were already working and up. Thistleear and Thornfoot were mock battling with Kinkstem and Shadeears. Bravestar gave a tiny nod of approval.
"You'd think dregs would get the memo to stay away from TimberClan!" Flintnose spat curling his lip.
"And my kits are in danger! We must do something!" Badgerstalk yowled.
By this time, the patrols were ready to be set out. Ravenwing was taking cats to the stretch just behind the gathering place, to check and make sure there were no new scents. Leopardheart was leading cats along the TimberClan border, while Flintnose and Crouchfoot were both heading up further with hunting patrols.
Bravestar was walking with Leopardheart's patrol when suddenly, a strong stench hit his nose. Leopardheart's fur spiked along her back. Cats slinked from the tall grass in front of them. "Well well well," purred a white cat with ginger flecks. "What do we got here Lua?" The cat asked a black and ginger she-cat. Her ear was floppy and torn.
"Lua.." Pikestalk snarled.
"York. I'm so pleased to see you." The black and ginger she-cat purred.
Bravestar growled at her, but before he could move, the white and ginger warrior hissed at her. "York is no longer my name. I am Pikestalk now." He told her.
Then, a black tom with white paws strode up. "These cats all stink!" He rumbled.
"I resent that comment Zeek." Kinksetm growled lowly.
The tom blinked at her, eyeing her up and down, his blue collar making a jingling noise. "You'll give us away to your stupid Twolegs you oak-brain! Stop moving your fat head!" Raccoonpaw snapped.
"You'll pay for that you little rat!" The black and white kittypet yowled, but a silver and white kittypet whacked him. "Stop it Zeek!" She snapped.
He turned on her and clawed her ear.
Two other cats charged for the clan cats. Leopardheart tacked the white and ginger flecked cat. Thornfoot and Thistleear both tackled a long haired gray tom.
"Leave! Leave before I tear you to bits!" Quickfoot's roar rose above the rest to the black and white cat named Zeek.
"Ha! Will I really leave?" He taunted. The light brown tabby clawed his cheek, while Pikestalk attacked him from behind.
"You know you're meant to be a kittypet York! Not a stupid warrior!" He sneered.
Bravestar kept a cat pinned down to the ground. This cat was not a kittypet, this cat was a dappled gray tom. "So you're one of these forest cats?"
"I have no shame in it!" He spat, clawing his ear.
The dappled cat pushed with his back legs and clawed Bravestar's cheek. Stunned, he saw the cat whirl away to fight his mate! Leopardheart! Fear and fury clashed inside his belly. He ran forward and launched himself onto the rogue's back, sinking his teeth into the back of his neck.
Leopardheart curled her lip down at the rogue who fell limp as great scarlet blood gushed in the grass. She purred and bounded back into the thick of the fray. Suddenly, to Bravestar's astonishment, he saw that white and gray kittypet fighting on their side!
Racconpaw and Flowerpaw were hanging onto the back of a cat who was whirling around violently, in his efforts to get them off. Suddenly, a wail broke out stopping the fighting and some cats turned and fled away. "They're leaving!" Poolhawk yowled, blood staining her muzzle, as Bravestar knew it wasn't hers.
As he watched the last cat go, the TimberClan, WolfClan, and ViperClan cats yowled in triumph.
