Chapter Nine

Deyes was quiet after Petra explained everything.

They were still in the car, parked in the garage; the fact that he wasn’t saying anything scared Ariella more than if he were screaming rude mean curses at her. Anything would be better then the dreadful feeling pulling around her, hitting her in the gut.

Finally, he spoke. “You know this could get her killed Petra? This could get her killed and it would be your entire fault.” He said, softly.

“Deyes, I don’t have any other choice.”

“You could leave the house and find a job.” He said, his voice changing stronger, and angry. “You could do plenty of things, Petra. You could runaway, with that boy you’re so in love with. What would he think when he found out how selfish you really are? Putting someone in danger like that!”

“Blake wouldn’t hurt her.” Petra whispered, but Ariella could hear the tremble in her voice.

“No, Blake wouldn’t but what if Dev found out? What if he saw her instead of me? Or dad? Or God forbid, my mom! Petra, she would be as good as dead in that horrible Reform, where they do God knows what and you would still be engaged!” His voice kept rising as he spoke. “You’re manipulative-”

“Stop it.” whispered Ariella, putting her hands to her head.

“And deceitful!” Deyes continued.

“Stop.” said Ariella again, her head throbbing.

“And you don’t care about anyone but your damn self!”

“Stop it, Deyes. Stop it!” yelled Ariella, finally.

Petra eyes over watered, making her cry every time she blinked; the salt water slowly running down her porcelain cheeks.

“I chose to do it. I told her I would do it. I know it’s stupid, but I wanted to do it. Please. Stop. Yelling at her!” cried Ariella.

Deyes looked down at his feet. “You’re both stupid then. This will never work, and all you guys are doing is making things worst then what they already are.”

Ariella could help but agree with him on that part. Now, she had put her heart, Petra’s heart, and Blake’s heart on a weak string that was bound to break, to rip apart.

“You’re going to get hurt Ariella. Just tell him you’re leaving to Canada tomorrow. They’re sending you out early, and you’re never coming back.”

“It not that easy, sir.”

“Back to that again, huh?” He said, confusing Ariella. He paused. “The hell; it’s not? I’ll do it myself, if you can’t talk to him.”

“Mr. Blackwell…” She said, but she thought for a second.

How easy it would be to just stop and disappear? To never have to tell Blake, not to rotten his memory of her, but then, there was never seeing Blake again. Not to see his smile, feel his hand, never to see the bright light in his eyes or hear him speak. How could she just ‘leave’ and never come back, never let him know the truth. He would always wonder what happened. How could she just drop it, like it never happened?

“I can’t keep lying to him, but I can’t, not, see him ever again.” Ariella said, looking back at Deyes. “I’ll tell him everything; I can’t let him hear it from you.”
