Chapter Four

The music pounded into her blood stream as she entered the giant church. Colorful lights flashed across the high ceilings, while people swarmed in the middle of the floor, dancing.

“Oh my-” Ariella said, in amazement taking in the high energy.

“Petra!” yelled a girl, with blond hair running toward them.

“Eshah!” yelled Petra, behind her.

“Who’s this?” she asked, looking at Ariella.

“Ariella.” said Ariella, after Petra hesitated. “Ariella Detrov.”

“Huh. Oh, yeah, from Canada right? I think I’ve heard of you.” She said her voice was high, annoying. How could her parents choose that?

“Yeah, I’m Petra’s cousin, from Canada.” She said, awkwardly.

“Where are you sitting?” asked Petra, breaking the awkward hum Ariella seemed to bring with her.

“Oh, follow me.” said Eshah. “We’re all here, now!”

They went up the stairs, leading to a balcony. There was a bar at the front and two sides of the balcony had tables and booths full of people. You could see the dance floor of people going wild.

What happens next is just a blur of hellos and names that Ariella will never remember, the music swallowing half of the introductions. She had to remember it didn’t really matter she would never see there people ever again.

The only thing sticking to her was a guy, with green eyes with short blond hair, winking at her, his name something like Walt.

She found herself uncomfortable and tired. It had been a long day of endless cleaning and standing, and now she wasn’t going to be sleeping off the day of torture Mrs. Biya had put her through. This really wasn’t the best day to party.

Still she was here, because she wanted to see how it is to be them, of course she never thought it would be bad.

They were all just talking, knowing each other; they picked on each other, and played around. She wasn’t sure what to do.

Lessers didn’t talk a lot like this only she and Chav were really able to talk, but that was different, they were different. These people were strangers, what could she say?

She kept a smile on her face though, laughed when she had to just for show nothing more.

“Petra?” she asked, the heat really starting to bug her. “Where’s the bathroom?”

“Go down stairs, turn to the left and just go down the hallway it’ll lead you to the door. Do you want me to go with you?”

“No, no, it’s fine.”

“Alright.” said Petra, smiling as if she were relieved; going back to her friends.

One by one she went slowly down the steps.

She didn’t feel any real danger at, it was just a bunch of teens talking, and hanging out.

What would they do to her anyways? They barley gave her any mind at all. They probably wouldn’t care that she was a Lesser, just like they didn’t care about anything else really.
