Chapter Six
Sunday was another day off, so Ariella had thought. But it was more of a day to clean up the Lesser sections, they didn’t have time for during the week; like their showers, bathrooms and rooms.
She didn’t mind, though, with so many other people there wasn’t a lot of things to do.
“Mail!” Yelled Dorian, when they were done, Ariella stepped in line sure that Chav would’ve sent something even though she hadn’t been able to.
“Oh, who’s Chav?” asked Dorian, raising his eyes brows.
Ariella shook her head, smiling. “A friend.” She said, getting the letter from his hand.
“You can only send a letter, okay? More would cost you, and I’m sending them off tonight.”
Ariella nodded, moving to her room with nothing else to do. She opened the letter and read:
Dear Rel,
Things here are boring as always. Gray walls, frosted glass and now gray skies with the in coming change of seasons, makes me feel like I’m in prison. Soon, the grass will be dead and dull. I need to get out of here as soon as possible, Rel. I feel so trapped, so confide. School does nothing for me, we just go over the same thing over and over again and I am so tired of it. The only thing that keeps me up is Alana and knowing only three weeks left. But I can’t tell Alana the things I tell you. She doesn’t understand my loyal disdain for the Order like you do. I never thought she was a Loyalist, but she is. Still, Alana tries to understand me, even if she can’t.
Rel, something’s have been happening that I need to tear off my chest. It seems like we’ve gotten a safety issue at school because, now, it seems like there are more and more Officers. Now, I know we usually have one or two always out and about but something strange happened. It’s like there is one in every hallway now, watching us but they don’t just watch us; they whip us if we are late or litter or do something remotely considered bad. I have ten on my back right as I’m writing this to you. (For tardiness) Tell me, Rel, is this happening in the city too? Are there more Officers? Do they watch you’re every move like they watch ours? I just want to know if we are alone in this or not. Are they going to do something to us that requires guards? If it’s that, then I’m really worried. Or are they worried about the riots happening everywhere? Because obviously they give us nothing to riot with, who would we attack anyways? I just don’t know what they want us to do, or what they’re waiting for, and I’m just tired.
Miss you,
Chav
Ariella stared at the letter, lying in her bed staring at the paper in her hands.
Riots? She thought.
She tried to think were there a lot of officers in the square last night or in the day. During the day there were a ton, they blending in just like everyone else and at night there weren’t any at all. That was weird. Maybe because it was so empty, you can’t control anything that is empty.
