Chapter Three

Ariella woke up to her body being shaken.

She groaned, turning around; opening her sand filled eyes to a very serious small face.

“You should shower now. Before breakfast or there won’t time until tonight.” said Lavin, in a plain tone.

“What time is it?” she mumbled, groggy.

“Five. Hurry, believe me, you don’t want to shower at night”

            “Why not?”

“No hot water.” She said simply.

Ariella had to think for a second, what was she doing here. She went through yesterday slowly, Westerson, Blackwell’s, and it’s only Wednesday.

Ariella groaned, slipping out of bed.

She took a hurried shower, happy it was empty and solitary as she got dressed. The others came in as she came out, brushing out her tangled hair. The necklace under her shirt already, not wanting to leave it in the room this time; just in case.

She was one of the first ones to eat breakfast with Lavin since she had already showered. Which was good, it meant she would get more then those who would arrive later, with the steaming oatmeal in front of her and she started to ask Lavin all the question she couldn’t yesterday.

“Where are you from?” Ariella asked, curiously.

“South Ridge.” Lavin said, grimly. “You?”

“Water Field.”

“That’s not that far.”

“It was just about three hours, and you?”

“Six.”

Ariella nodded, bit her lip. “How old are you?”

“Twenty- two, same as Dorian.”

“Have you been here all that time?”

“No.” she said, looking down at her food.

Ariella didn’t pry though know the face of when you’re almost hitting a personal topic.

“So, new girl.” Lavin said, changing the subject. The new nickname she’d been given not bugging her at all. “Are you excited that you finally got out of that prison they call school?”

“I thought I was; until I got here.”

Lavin gave her a small smile. “It only gets worst.”

“How fun?” Ariella said, sarcastically. “I thought we would just go swimming in the pool or something.”

This time Lavin did smile.

After serving breakfast, which was a lot like serving dinner; just with Deyes gone for half the time, they cleaned the rest of the day. Ariella shadowed Lavin, helped, and learned her way around better though she would still get lost. Lavin showed her things Mrs. Biya usually checked for and spots she couldn’t miss.

Jove, the red headed guy, showed her the kitchen for anything she might need to get Deyes. He even let her drink some pineapple juice.

The next day she shadowed Lavin again, and found Lavin honestly wasn’t mean just turned mean when she was tired.

Deyes didn’t ask for much either, not like the first day or even the second. She even stopped thinking about his eyes.

Every night she would fall to bed, tired and sore. Every night she would curl into herself and fall fast asleep.
