After I got home from work, Nick wasn't around. He seemed to be locked away in his room busy with something else. It was most likely something to do with his diabolical company that helps bad men stay away from the law.

I mean, why else would men like my father ask for his help?

The fact that he was absent at the moment was perfect for me. I wouldn't have to face his accusing questions about my whereabouts every time I left the house. After I showered, I reentered my room. As I pulled on the white dress decorated with pastel pink flowers, I spotted the glass boat that Nick had studied earlier. It led my mind to May, so I ripped my gaze away and started on my makeup.

Once I was ready, I snuck out. Sure, I was positive Nick wouldn't leave his lair to lecture me on the importance of safety, but somehow it felt right to shut the door softly behind me.

I turned around to see Daniel's truck pull up in front of my house. I grinned and glanced over to the garage door where Nick's BMW was parked.

Don't think about him.

I gave Daniel a shy smile when he stepped out of the driver's side and he smiled back. He was dressed in a short sleeved button down and shorts. The passenger side door was opened for me as we exchanged greetings and soon the truck was started.

The sun was already almost done with its display of colors as it set below the horizon.

"So what's on our schedule for tonight?" I asked as Daniel drove down my street.

"First up, dinner," he announced and we began to pull into the city.

After about a half hour drive, we pulled into the most generic and predictable area he could've taken me.

"Seaport Village? Really?" I asked, a playful smile lighting up my face.

"Nope, just the harbor. This is where my dad parks his boat," Daniel said, throwing the truck into park. As we got out, I was washed over with the scent of the ocean and the sound of bustling people enjoying their time in the little area of tourism.

"It's kind of nice. I've never been so it's cute in a way. Charming," I observed.

"Really? Well we'll have to go sometime," Daniel offered before leading me to the docks. His father's boat was a little cheaper than my own boat.

On board, there was only one bedroom and a very small kitchenette compared to mine. The deck didn't have a pool and the sky deck was a little on the small side. Still, it was better than no boat.

Daniel had already prepared dinner and set up candles on a table on the main deck. He drove us out into the bay and set the anchor. He led me to the table and sat me down.

A few minutes later, he returned with our plates. My stomach grumbled at the smell of food and I remembered I hadn't eaten all day. I thought back to Nick's waffles from this morning. They smelt really good and he looked yummy in that ap-

Stop!

"Is everything okay? Samantha you look tired," Daniel said, leaning over the table and brushing my dirty blond hair over my shoulder. His touch made me shiver and I automatically nodded my head.

"Perfect! And this food looks amazing!" I exclaimed, picking up my fork and knife.

"Wait, before we eat. I just want to say something," Daniel said, reaching to pause my hand.

I met his eyes and I held back a smile.

"You look," he started, his eyes scanning me, "beautiful."
