Odell's Point of View.
"Odell, you need to find your mate," I heard my mom say as she entered the foyer of our house.
Groaning in displeasure, I didn't have time for this. "I have bigger things to worry about mom."
Taking in my words, she let out a heavy sigh before taking a seat in one of the red velvet chairs.
Stealing a quick glance over at my mother, I could tell she was worried sick about me.
"I know son, but after I'm gone, I want you to be happy."
"I don't need anyone to make me happy mom. The pack makes me happy," I tried to explain to her, hoping to get my point across.
"But I want grandchildren for the love of God! That's all I want in life," she whined, throwing her arms in the air.
I started laughing at her silliness. "No mom. Not in a million years."
"It's the Makayla thing, isn't it?" She asked getting serious.
Clenching my teeth together, I sat the book on the table with anger suddenly flaring inside me.
"No, it's not. Can we talk about something else?"
"Yes, it is. I can tell when you are hurting and I know you are now. Just for me, let your frustration out."
Listening to her, I did just that. I let it all out.
"You know how it feels to love a person that doesn't love you? When I found out she wasn't my mate I was heartbroken mom. It hurts when I see the girl I still love, care for someone else and not me.
"I know it hurts baby, but you have a mate out there that's just for you. Trust me on that," she whispered as she got up from her chair and embraced me into a hug.
When she hugged me, I finally broke. Even when my father died in a rogue attack did I not cry, but today I cried for both of them.
As I let go, it was if time stood still. We were both not moving, but only the beat of our hearts was.
After the emotional moment I shared with her, I thanked her.
"No problem! Just know that I'm still your mommy and you will always be my baby, even if you are an Alpha."
I jokingly rolled my eyes. "I know mom."
She gave me a doubtful look. "Yeah right."
-------- next morning ---------
"Everyone choose your partner," I yelled over the small crowd in front of me.
We were all standing in the woods ready to begin our training.
With one girl not being paired with a partner, I decided to be hers.
"Would you like to be my partner?" I asked nicely to the girl.
"I guess so," she whispers as she quickly looked up at me then at her sneakers.
Chuckling at her shyness, I motioned for her to come with me to the front so that everyone could look and pay attention to me.
"Before we start, I want everyone to take fifteen minutes to get to know your partner because this will be your partner, until the training is done," I commanded.
As the pairs started to wonder off into the woods, I turned my attention towards the girl.
"My name is Odell," I said as I extended my hand out for her to shake.
"Y/n," she smiled before hesitantly shaking it.
As we took a seat on the ground, I couldn't help, but notice how beautiful she was.
Figuring out I was clearly staring, she cleared her throat, waiting for me to say something.
Feeling the embarrassment, I rubbed the back of my neck before speaking.
"You're shy aren't you?"
She nodded her head before casting her eyes down towards the ground for the second time today.
I started smiling once again at her cuteness. "It's okay."
"Thanks for being my partner," she mumbled, breaking the silence between the two of us this time.
After answering many questions back and forth from each other, I finally knew a few things about this girl that was sitting in front of me.
She was twenty-one living on her own since she was eighteen.
Her parents also died during the rogue attack and she was on a full scholarship at a nearby college.
The one thing I liked about her out of the many was that she was an independent woman.
After answering the few questions that were thrown at me by her, I couldn't help, but blurt out the next question that sat in the back of my head since I became her partner.
"Are you mated yet?"
Not saying a few words for a couple of minutes, she let out a sigh. "Yeah, two years ago."
"Oh."
As we sat in silence, the next thing that came out of her mouth made it worse.
"He rejected me," she said in sadness, her eyes welling up with tears.
I gave her an apology for his dumb mistake.
I wanted to give her a hug to make things better, but I didn't want to overstep my boundaries here.
She shook her head before getting up and brushing off her pants. "It's fine. We should start."
I could tell she didn't want to talk about it so I let it be.
The only thing I had on my mind after our little conversation was her mate. He was stupid for her letting her go.
-----
After training was over, I told everyone to be at the same spot three days from now around the same time.
While putting the weapons into a bag, I heard a small voice behind me.
"Do you need any help?"
Turning around I came in contact with y/n.
"If you don't mind," I admitted with a sly smile.
Trying to build up the courage to ask for her number was the hardest thing to do.
"Something is bothering you," she noticed as I put the last item into my bag.
"Umm... c-could I have your number?"
Looking at me with disbelief shadowing her face, she squinted her eyes. "Is this some kind of joke?"
Knitting my eyebrows together, I was totally confused. "No."
Debating on whether or not she should give me her number, she finally agreed after a few minutes of not saying a word.
Mentally high fiving myself at my accomplishment, I told her that I'll text her tonight.
While getting into my car and she getting into hers also, I waited until she left before starting my own car.
Driving onto the main road, I couldn't help, but smile at today's events.
What a day it has been.
