I glanced towards them and Felix pat the back of Tristans shoulder as he looked at him with shock. Felix left and Tristan and I were left alone in the store. He stood there, shock written all over his face. I don't remember if I had run away or stayed there, staring at him.

But what I do remember, is that I didn't get groceries that day.

Chapter 9

"Felix Jones? Point guard of the basketball team?"

Elena took a bite out of her sandwich.
We sat together in the courtyard, eating lunch together. The mid day sun shone its brilliant rays down on us as we shivered in the cold, surrounded by a thin layer of snow on the ground. Elena looked up as she slowly chewed on her sandwich, as if she was thinking about the idea for a moment. I wasn't surprised. I wouldn't believe me either if I told myself that someone asked me out. She turned her head and looked at me with wide eyes.

"Hey, at least your going to the dance!"

Her eyes filled with delight for me. I couldn't go if Elena wasn't going to be there. I'm not showing up to the dance with just a date if my date has other friends he would talk to.

"Are you coming Elena?"

Elena took a sip of her Pepsi.

"If anyone asks me. Otherwise, dances aren't really my thing."

I rolled my eyes.

"They aren't mine either. This is the first one I've ever attended."

Elena laughed. Then she looked at me, suddenly noticing that I was not joking. She cleared her throat and stopped laughing. I suddenly got an idea and quickly stood up. I turned to walk away, completely forgetting Elena out in the courtyard, alone in the snow.

"Hey! Where are you going!?"

* * * * *

"There you are!"

He turned his head towards me and smiled. It gave me butterflies. I've never felt that way before. I've never felt butterflies. But I decided to ignore the feeling anyway.

"Hey Jenna, something wrong?"

He asked me with an eyebrow raised. I laughed and rolled my eyes. My mind flashed back to Felix for a moment then a split second later, I was looking into his eyes, lost in thought. I had to shake myself awake. I was totally losing sight for a moment.

"Uh no, Tristan. I wanted to ask you something."

He didn't respond, he waited. Impatiently tapping his foot on the ground, he tilted his chin down a bit but still looked at me straight in the eye. The butterflies remained and I felt as if I was going to hurl if they didn't go away.

"Um, so. The Winterball. I wanted to ask you if you had a date."

His eyebrows raised, surprised that I asked this question, perhaps. I mean, all I asked is if he had a date. I wasn't asking if he wanted to go with me as a date.

"Um no... But aren't you going with Felix?"

But apparently that's what he thinks. I rolled my eyes as I saw a glint of hope in his. It made me confused and I pushed his shoulder.

"Not me, silly."

He straightened up, disappointment flashed across his face for a moment and then he cleared his throat awkwardly.

"Right, of course. I wasn't thinking you were asking me I was just, um... D-double checking, you know?"

I felt awkward as he ranted on, stuttering as he tried to get every word out. It almost seemed as if he was angry. I shook it off, almost forgetting why I came to him in the first place.

"Yeah, anyway. I wanted to ask you to do a huge favour for me."

"Of course, anything."

"Well, I have a friend and she doesn't have a date to the dance... So I was wondering if you could take her to the Winterball?"

Tristan widened his eyes and hesitated for a moment.

"Who's your friend?"

"Elena Roberts."

A lightbulb seemed to go off in his head.

"Ahh, yes. I know her. I'd be glad to take her to the dance."

I chuckled at his imitation of a posh accent. I straightened out the sleeves of my sweater and went up beside him, placing a hand on his back.

"Don't tell me that. Ask her first, Romeo."

He chuckled awkwardly.

"Yeah... Romeo."

He turned around and faced me. Then from behind me, I heard a voice call out.

"There you are! I've been looking all over for you Jenna!"

We turned our heads to see Elena walk towards us. Her backpack loosely slung over her left shoulder and her hair was now up in a ponytail, snow all over the top.

"I didn't think I'd find you before next block."

She turned to Tristan.

"Oh, hello."

She smiled at him and he faced his head towards me. I nodded, placing a hand on his cheek and turning his head towards Elena. I slung an arm over his shoulder as I waited for his proposal.

"Hey, Elena. So I was wondering. If you didn't have a date to the Winterball yet, if you would want to go with me?"

Elena stared at me wide eyed. I nodded vigorously and she turned her attention to Tristan and smiled.

"I'd love to."

They both stared at each other and I stepped back, proud. They didn't seem like a bad type either if they were to start dating. Tristan was so chill and go-with-the-flow type of person. Someone who's very fluid with what they do. Elena was happy-go-lucky and spontaneous. They weren't such a bad pairing.

It made me think though, I wondered if there was anyone out there. Who was able to put up with me and my weird antics and shy personality. Someone who accepted me for who I was.

"Hello, Love."

Felix came up behind me and slithered his arm around my neck. A feeling I should be comforted by.
