It was lunch and I waited anxiously at my locker. I turned my head to the right and saw Christine approaching. I smiled warmly as she walked over.
"Hi Erik! Are you ready?" Christine asked as she hugged me. Hugging Christine was still so surreal.
"Yes. Shall we?" I answered as Christine grabbed my hand. We walked hand and hand down the hall to the cafeteria. I couldn't believe that Christine was publicly showing a form of affection to me. It could just be friendly hand holding though.
We arrived at the cafeteria and I ordered some fries."Don't you want to order more than just fries? You need food for your brain to function." Christine asked with concern. I appreciated that she cared.
"No, I'm good. I ate a big breakfast." I lied. The look of worry faded from Christine's face.
I payed and grabbed my food and we left. We walked to a little nook outside since it was so nice outside."It's so nice outside sitting with you." Christine remarked.
"I agree. I love fall. It's my favourite season." I replied looking out at the leaves falling on the desolate field. There were a few guys playing football on the field but other than that everybody was inside. I noticed that the sidewalk was hidden by all the fallen leaves.
"My favourite season is spring. I love seeing all the flowers pop up." Christine looked up. "It sucks that no one's outside. It's so beautiful out. It's probably one of the last nice days of the year."
"That's what I think. It's so nice to sit under a tree on nice days like this and write songs. I get a lot of inspiration from my surroundings."
Christine looked pleasantly surprised. "Could you show me one of your songs sometime? You don't have to sing it just read the lyrics." Christine asked pulling grass from the ground and sprinkling it back onto the ground.
"Uh, sure." I looked at Christine and smiled. She smiled back as her reply. I looked at my phone. "Maybe we should go inside. You don't want to be late for class."
"I don't need to go to my next class. I like just being with you. Don't you have a spare?" Christine stated. Was she for real? I don't want to influence her in a bad way.
"Yeah. But I don't want you to miss class. I don't want to be a bad influence."
Christine playfully rolled her eyes. "You're not a bad influence, Erik. I can get away with one class."
I sighed. "Fine. But if you get in trouble it's not my fault." The late bell rung.
"Well I guess it's too late to go to class." Christine joked.
I laughed and touched her nee. She grabbed my hand and squeezed it. Christine then leaned in and kissed me on the lips. The kiss only lasted for a few seconds but the feeling of her lips lingered longer. I could hear footsteps.
"Crap it's Raoul. He's probably looking for me." Christine stated with worry.
"Are you sure?" Christine cut me off.
"Yes! Let's go." Since Christine was holding my hand she pulled me up and we ran around the corner to another nook. We looked and saw Raoul. Christine was right. He stomped around calling for Christine. "Christine? Are you out here? Are you OK? You're not in class."
We saw him walking in our direction and darted to another nook at the back of the school. We decided to book it away from the school and to somewhere else. We made it to a nearby apartment building without getting caught by Raoul."Good. We lost him." I heard Christine say. I laughed. We actually got away from Raoul. Of course he's always trying to ruin our moments. But we did have fun running away from him.
We watched Raoul walk back into the building and we walked back to the field."That was fun running from Raoul." I remarked. "I don't need gym class with all the running we do from him."
Christine laughed. "Oh, Erik." She couldn't quite finish her sentences with how hard she was laughing. "You're the funniest."
Christine's POV
I couldn't stop laughing at Erik's joke. Then it hit me. I need to ask Erik to homecoming. He's the only person I want to go with. His kind, caring eyes watched me calm down."Uh Erik? I have to ask you something." I told him nervously. Erik nodded for me to continue. "Um. Uh. Will. Will you go to homecoming with me?" I stammered.
Erik smiled widely. "Yes! Of course I will! Ah I'm so happy!" I couldn't help but smile at his response. I couldn't believe that he said yes. But I kind of could at the same time. He was here all along waiting for me. I scooted over and kissed Erik square on the lips. The kiss lasted for about a minute. We then broke away and just smiled at each other. We had nothing to say. It felt like fireworks were going off when we kissed. I felt all kinds of sparks.
We sat and talked for what felt like forever under the hot sun. Erik checked the time."Class is almost over. We should probably get back." Erik stated. I looked at the time myself.
"Your right! It was nice hanging with you." I smiled as I said the last part.
Erik smiled back. "It was! I hope we can do it again soon."
As we got up I thought about us. Since I've been seeing Erik I've seen Raoul less and less. I didn't mind though. I felt different when I was with Erik then when I was with Raoul. Erik grabbed my hand and he walked me to my locker.Raoul's POV
I got out of class early and saw Christine and Erik holding hands. I knew they were together and skipped class. I scoffed to myself. I decided to follow them and hear their conversation."I can't wait for homecoming with you. If it was as fun as today then I'll have a blast." I heard Erik say. Was he for real? Probably not.
"Same! We're gonna look so cute together. I can see it now. You'll have to match your tie to my dress."
"Of course!"
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I thought that we were gonna go together. I sighed and walked to my last class. I had to figure out a plan to break them up. They weren't official but I had to stop them before they got that way.
Erik's POV
I got to my last class and brought out my book. The teacher began the lecture and I feverishly wrote notes. I began to doodle in the margins when the teacher was reviewing what he said. I drew little hearts and things like ED + CD, Christine's name with a heart beside it, etc. Soon the bell rang and I dashed out of class. I quickly put my things in my locker and ran to work. As I got to the back entrance of the Opera Populare I put on my mask and went inside. Madame Giry smiled at me as I got in the room and sat behind the piano. I smiled back and quickly warmed up. I watched Christine as she and the other dancers filed in. They warmed up and took their place at the barre. Madame Giry nodded at me to start playing. I've played these songs a thousand times. I didn't even need to look at my hands. I watched Christine gracefully do her barre exercises. She could make any kind of dance look graceful and poised. Madame Giry nodded at me to stop. I ended the song and watched the class. As I went to get up and leave Madame Giry motioned me to stay. I wonder why. I stayed until the class was over. I then dashed out of class.Christine's POV
Class was over and I quickly took off my point shoes, put on my regular shoes, and dashed to go see Erik. He was moving fast so it was hard to follow him. I noticed him go through a mirror in one of the dressing rooms. I went through the mirror shortly after and followed him through a series of corridors. As we reached a house on the lake I decided to call to him since I had no way of getting across."Erik! What are you doing?" I called.
Erik's head shot up. He turned around. "Christine? What are you doing here?"
He walked over. "I realized that you play the piano for my ballet class." I started. "I wanted to see you after so I followed you. What is this place anyways."
Erik grabbed my hand. "I'm glad you asked."
