the man found his father waiting for him in their usual spot, along the wall. his father had already ordered a chocolate Gelato for himself and he quickly got the same before sitting next to his father.
"So how is the business treating you?" his father asked, his accent still hearable.
"Alright, i guess. it pays good and keeps my mind of... things." he replied looking down to his gelato.
"i know, i miss her everyday too." his father replied.
his father sounded far away, but now days when they talked of his mother he often did. his mother had died four years ago of some kind of cancer. he didn't really want to know anyway, his brother and mother's death weighed heavily on his father which weakened him. his father sighed and smiled looking back to his son who was doing so well for himself.
"I was thinking that we could do something on the weekend, like we used to do before." his father added.
"Yes, i would love that. do you have anything in mind?"
"I have always wanted to see the History Museum. i've lived here for nearly 30 years and i still haven't seen the place. you're mother wanted to go too, ah i still want to see it."
"I'll take you, this weekend. we'll go together, that way a part of mom can go with the both of us." he answered taking a bite of the coldness.
"Yes, i would like that. so Jimmy, have you found any beautiful women to persue?" his father asked.
"No, i am not really looking."
"Son, you have money and you aren't that old yet! get you're head in there, or else all the cute ones will be gone!" his father exclaimed.
he thought back to the young girl who had been on the bus, but pushed the thoughts away. she was too young for him, he conenctrated back to his gelato. his father caught on with this and soon there was silence.
"17 years ago, you, you're mother, and i were all wating outside a hospital room. i was thinking i was going to be a grandfather to soon, you're mother was fussing over the care of the child. we had sent a message to you're brother telling him what happened and he was ready to come find Abby and kill her. i myself was ready to deal with the wench but she disappeared shortly after the child was born. when you're mother handed you the child, she and i both knew that you would make a wonderful father someday." his father said, breaking the silence.
"Yes well, i wasn't ready then."
"I know. we both know that you know of the Shadow world. the world where Shadowhunters roam, and fight saving our kind, the Mundanes as they call us. i know that after she told you of the world you began a huge research to find out more of Shadowhunters. i think that is the first day i knew something in you had changed, for the better. you were so fascinated by all the tales that it was hard to get you away from them."
He smiled remembering those days, the days when he was still innocent.
"You're mother and i knew Abby's family and we befriended their friends. you're mother bought shadowhunter books from them in secret just to give them to you. later when it happened, i suspect, you stopped, you hated them so much. i think you still, maybe just a little. what i am trying to say is that you have to forgive the race, not the person." his father added.
"I don't understand, what does any of this have to do with me?" he asked.
"One of the friends you're mother and i made was a Warlock. her name is Alma Santacruz, i recently got back in contact with her. as you know, my leg has been causing me a lot of problems. it seems to be infected with some kind of demon poisoning. she has given me a healing potion, but i do not know how long i will last." his father said softly.
