Percy and McGonagall sat in an uncomfortable silence for a while after Ron, Hermione and Ginny left.

Finally McGonagall spoke, "mr.."

"Jackson " Percy crossed his arms.

"Mr Jackson I have a feeling that you appearing and Mr Potter disappearing on the same day is not a coincidence." McGonagall folded her hands in her lap neatly and sat up straighter, but worry was visible in her eyes, "I have been informed of a greater threat that will soon make itself visible. And I believe that this threat will be greater than any that any of us have ever faced before."

Percy suddenly had the urge to laugh, "try me."

McGonagall frowned at him, "excuse me?"

Percy furrowed his brow, "sorry, I don't know why I said it."

McGonagall shook this off, "in light of this news, I think that you will be here for sometime, which means that you will need so where to stay. I propose that you be sorted into one of the four houses and you can stay there."

"Um, okay I guess," Percy said, slightly unsure.

McGonagall got to her feet and made her way to one of the shelves that had evaded Ginny's temper tantrum. She pulled from the shelves an old hat.

It was brown with many rips in it. McGonagall set it down on her desk and the largest rip along the rim opened.

"Isn't it a few weeks later for a sorting?" It asked.

"it is," McGonagall nodded, "but this is a special case."

McGonagall lifted the hat and placed it on Percy's head. The rim fell over his eyes.

"You're much older than first year aren't you," the hat spoke in his head.

"I'm not sure," Percy replied.

"Yes you're not sure of much are you," the hat said, "but it's all here in your head. Oh the things you've seen, much to much for a nineteen year old boy. Too much for anyone."

"I don't remember."

"But do you know what I can see?" The hat plowed on, "you're loyal, extremely loyal. That's a Hufflepuff quality."

"What the hell is a Hufflepuff?" Percy frowned.

The hat ignored him, "but I can't see you fitting into Hufflepuff. You're a risk taker. That is extremely clear to see. You are clever, but not quite a Ravenclaw, and you're far to loyal to be a Slytherin, you couldn't betray anyone even to save yourself. And you're brave. Very brave. I can see you fitting in perfectly in GRIFFINDOR!" The hat shouted the last word for the whole room to hear. (The whole room being McGonagall)

The hat was taken from his head and he blinked, the light of the room, dazzling him after the darkness of the hat.

McGonagall put away the hat and then smiled at him.

"I was a Griffindor, as is Harry. I will take you up to the common room now."

She made her way to the door and held it open, gesturing for Percy to leave the office, he did and she followed. Closing the door behind her.
