Hermione was getting sick of books. She knew if anyone ever heard her say that then she would never live it down. Especially if Ron heard it.

She and Annabeth had spent agers pouring over books, desperate to find a way to get Hecate out of the painting.

She had tried charms, curses and jinxes to try and get Hecate out. Annabeth had gone for a more physical approach after Hermione had no success and had thrown it across the room several times, shouted at it (although neither of them thought that would work) and thrown her sword at it.

So long story short they hadn’t had any success, and they were both starting to get majorly annoyed at the painting.

“Maybe it’s something to do with combining your powers?” Percy stated, one mealtime when they were all sat at the Gryffindor table eating dinner one day.

Annabeth dropped her for at looked at him, she had shock written all over her face, “that could actually work.”

“Did I just accidentally figure something out again?” Percy grinned, “I love it when I do that!”

Annabeth and Hermione both jumped to their feet and sprinter to the library where they had pretty much taken up a permanent residence along with the painting.

Hecate hadn’t really moved since they were last there. She was sat on the tree stump looking extremely bored.

They skidded to a stop in front of the painting.

“So how do we go about this?” Annabeth looked at the painting like she was about to whip out her sword and slice it in half. (which she could well have been thinking about.)

“Try this,” Hermione held out her wand to Annabeth, Annabeth looked at it for a moment, weighing out her options, then she took it. “Okay point it at the painting and say Avertat.” Hermione told her.

Annabeth did as she was told, she pointed it and took a deep breath, “Avertat.”

A white light shot out of the end of the wand and hit Hecate right in the face. For a moment nothing happened, then the painting began to glow. The bright light shine several different colours throwing beams of light all across the library.

When the light subsided enough for Hermione to take her hands away from her eyes nothing had happened. The painting still smugly sat on its chair.

Percy and Harry ran into the library, “did it work?” Percy looked around.

“No,” Annabeth frowned looking around the room, “no, nothing happened.”

“Something happened,” Harry was looking at the painting. Hermione followed his gaze and saw that the painted stump was empty. In fact the entire painting was empty. Hecate was nowhere to be seen.

“So you guys got her out and then she took off?” Percy crossed his arms, “typical goddess.”

“Again with how much you hate gods!” Harry laughed, “you’ve really got to explain the whole thing to me sometime.”

“It might take quite a while,” Percy shrugged, “I have a lot of reasons for hating Gods.”

“Me too,” Annabeth agreed.
