"Jaden, I am not wearing this." I deadpanned. Jaden laughed, like something was really funny. Nothing will be funny when I punch the shit out of your face.
"Why? It's cute on you." He laughed. I squinted my eyes at him.
"Jaden, I am not wearing no goddamn tutu to prom!"
"It's not a tutu, it just has a fluffy.... bottom part thingy."
I stale-faced him. "Just, just go, Jaden. Go, please. Before I hurt you, and I don't want to do that. Go."
He raised his hands in surrender before walking out of my room. A few minutes later, my mom walked into my room with a large box in her hands, chuckling at the ridiculous dress I was wearing.
"Mom, it's not funny. I'm not wearing this pink..tutu..whatever this is, to prom." I slapped the fluffy part around.
"I thought you didn't care about prom. You told me you'd rather wear a T-shirt, some jeans, and a pair of messed up sneakers to your prom, than to wear a dress."
"Yeah, but I'm definitely not wearing this ballerina dress. I don't even have a ballerina body." I frowned.
She chuckled, shaking her head. She then handed the black box to me. "Here. This was what I wore to my prom, the same night your father told me that he was madly in love with me, and that I looked so beautiful in the moonlight."
I took the box and looked down, thinking about my dad. "Did Dad ever show you that he meant it?"
She sighed. "Did he ever. Every morning, he would show up to my front door, with a beautiful red rose, and a card. The card would always say the same thing: 'No rose will ever be as beautiful as you are.' So one day, I asked him when will he ever stop loving me so much, and he said 'When the next rose I give you will die'. I felt a little hurt after he said that, but I hoped that he would pick a long-lasting rose, because I didn't want him to stop loving me. So after he gave me that last rose, I made sure to water it every day, and whenever I checked up on it, it still was dying, but slowly.
I cried when it died, and I had no choice but to tell your dad. I didn't expect him to come the next morning, so all I did was lay in bed and cry all day. Then, I heard something hitting my window repeatedly, like little rocks. I went to the window, and your father was standing there with a wide smile on his face. I was beyond confused, and I asked him what he was doing."
She paused laughing and shaking her head. I, on the other hand, had tears strolling down my face as I still listened. "He said to me, 'Do you really think some silly flower is going to make me stop loving you?'" We both laughed. I could imagine my dad saying that. "And ever since then, I've loved your father endlessly. Especially after he died."
I wiped my face. Now that was true love. "Mom, do you think Jaden loves me the same way Daddy loved you?"
"It may be impossible, but I think, Jaden loves you way more than your daddy loved me. Your father wasn't a perfect man, but he made mistakes, big and small. But Jaden, now I know that he really loves the hell out of you, and I could tell you love the hell out of him too."
I nodded my head. "I do. So much."
She nodded her head. "Good. Now, I'll leave you to try on this outfit, and then cone downstairs to show everyone what it'll look like on you when it actually is prom night."
By everyone, she meant Ajah, Jaden, Sabrina, and herself.
"Okay." I said. She patted my shoulder before getting up and leaving, closing the door in the process.
