Amy Glenn's POV
"Terrified! T-t-t-terrified!"
I threw my hands towards the guy who was acting as my cheating boyfriend in our music video, and the water for the special effects flew from either side of me, soaking him as he got up and scrambled away. I smiled deviously and the director called, "Cut!"
"Nice work today, guys! That's a wrap!" The director said as the set guys helped me down from the rock-platform I was standing on. The costume directors immediately ushered me into their trailer, getting the make-up off and the long, billowing wine-colored dress back onto a hanger.
We had been working on the music video for our song, 'Terrified'. I played the main part; the girl who found out she was being cheated on and was taking revenge on the guy. It was exhilarating to play a part in a music video, especially the main role. I had always thought I was a terrible actress, but McDonough Studios was proving me wrong.
The music video for 'Significance' was way different than 'Terrified'. It was scary how good the video was and how many views it had. We were in the millions.
That's why Terra had decided on the second single. The fans were so receptive to our music, and the videos introduced so many new fans to our cause. 'Terrified' was no different; it was a song about standing up for yourself when people treat you wrong. Granted, it was a bit violent and over-the top, but, still, it was a good song. Kind of like 'Too Good for Revenge' by Poe's Raven...
A few hours later, we got a call from Terra saying that the video was finished. Of course, the four of us (the fourth being Jesse, my costar) rushed over the studio to see the completed production.
I walked into the room where Jesse was waiting on the couch. We laughed, we put a movie on, and his phone rang just as the opening credits started.
"Hold on, Ames, I've got to take this," he said, answering his phone as he got up and walked out of the room and out of the camera's view. "Hello? –No, not right now... -I wish I could, but I'm busy. –No, I'm not! –You know what, I'll call you later, okay, babe? Bye. –I love you, too." He walked back into the room and I pretended I hadn't heard any of his cryptic phone conversation. "Alright! It's at my favorite part!" he cheered, settling back onto the couch to put his arm around me as the intro to the music began to play.
"Who was on the phone?" I asked off-handedly, pretending I didn't care.
"Just one of the guys. So have you...?" He paused mid-sentence as the scene around us froze. I got up and started singing the first verse.
"You cheated baby, / shouldn't've even been a thought. / You've been actin' up lately, / finally you've been caught. / Had you wrapped around my finger, / or that's what I used to think. / And you're hanging by a thread, now, / baby, you're standin' at the brink." I got off the couch and climbed the stairs to his room. Opening the door of his closet that had pictures of him with me all over the front, I look inside to see all of the pictures he is in with another girl all over the back and several of them are the same pose and place.
"And let me tell you, / you won't like what comes out, / if you're still standin' there, / when I open my mouth..." I sang, taking all of the pictures of her down and laying them all out on his bed.
The scene switched to me walking along the beach in the long, purple dress that was billowing in the wind. "I'll leave you terrified, / reachin' for somethin' / in another life, / leavin' you broken. / Baby, don't ya see it? / You better believe it, / you'll be terrified. T-t-t-terrified. T-t-t-terrified. T-t-t-terrified.
I was back in his house, plotting revenge as I walked back down the stairs and popped back into the frozen scene. Once I sat down, the movie started playing again and he finished his question. "...decided about going to prom with me?"
"I already have the perfect dress," I smiled, snuggling into his shoulder as we continued our movie night.
The scene freezes again as I reach for his phone. I go to his call history and see all the calls and texts from a girl named Ashley as I sing the second verse. "You lied straight to my face. / I guess you thought I couldn't tell. / Her number wasn't erased. / Baby, I know you all too well. / Had you beggin' on your knees, / until you wanted somethin' more. / Still sayin', "Baby, please!" / As you're walkin' out my door..."
Suddenly, it was the day of prom and he was standing in my driveway, waiting for me to come out. "And if you're still here, / standin' on my front porch, / I'll set the house on fire, / just so you'll get scorched," I sang from my window, looking down at him.
My voice sang the chorus again over the scene. I walked through my house in the dress, stopping to talk to my "dad". His face becomes enraged and I walk out the back door towards the beach in my purple dress.
"And if you thought that / I was dangerous / when you meet my daddy's rifle, / it'll be outrageous!" A gunshot is heard from the background as I keep walking toward the beach, and my lips curl up in a sadistic smile.
"Amy! Ames, wait up!" Jesse puffs, catching up to me during a pause in the music. He's adjusting his suit, as if he had been chased.
"You're early! I was just going to take a look at the sunset," I explained sweetly, climbing onto the huge rock in front of me that almost blocked the sun's light. "So... how's Ashley doing?"
"Oh, she's great. She finally got into Univers... Wait, you know Ashley?" He starts to look nervous and the chorus starts playing again, softer than it was before, slowly growing in intensity.
I hold up a picture of him and Ashley kissing and he takes a step back.
"That was nothing, just a dare..." he lies, desperately hoping that I will believe him.
"You'll be terrified. T-t-t-terrified. T-t-t-terrified. T-t-t-terrified." The music halts abruptly as I throw up my hands toward him, as if casting a spell, and the winds pick up, whipping my dress and my hair around. The water from the ocean behind me rose up in a wave and drenched him completely, and the last thing you saw was Jesse stumbling away in fear, dripping wet.
"Oh, my gosh, that was incredible!" I squealed, hugging Brighton, who was still a little bit awestruck. "Nicely done, Jesse!" I high-fived my co-star, who was just as thrilled as I was. Meth picked me up and twirled me around, telling me that I was the best actress in the world.
"Good job, guys. The director said it was a pleasure working with you," Terra told us. "And Amy?" I looked up at her, questioningly. "You get to keep the dress."
