Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia, March 19, 2016.
"Excited, excited, excited". Daniel said and twirled around Maja who was trying to focus. She'd gotten her place behind the pit wall, next to Daniel's engineer Simon. She had met him yesterday during the practices and he was a very nice guy.
"I get it, you're excited". Maja said and rolled her eyes, tapping on the screen to make sure everything she had noticed yesterday was in place now. Even the smallest bolt could make a difference in the right amount of air flow.
"Aren't you?". He asked, standing still to look over her shoulder. He actually shouldn't be here at the pit wall, but he didn't care, he liked Maja's company and his pit crew was still busy with something anyway.
"Of course I am, I just don't feel the need to let whole Australia know". Daniel laughed at her dry response. "Okay, well fired". He admitted.
Maja saw the reflection of the Red Bull driver in the screens in front of her and looked at his handsome face for a moment. The cap made his curls flatten against his head and he still he had his overall around his waist, the sleeves in a loose knot.
Maja shivered and she couldn't understand how he could feel that warm, it was only 18 degrees and the sun was shining rather poor. "Here". Daniel put his cap on Maja's head and turned it around, so it was backwards on her head. "Now you're real cool, Maja".
He smiled as the Swede giggled. "Thanks, Daniel. I believe you have to get in the car". She said as Simon was walking towards them. "Oh, see ya later". The Australian waved briefly at her and jogged towards the pit box.
The first qualification rounds of the season were about to start and Maja felt ready. A few members of the team, including Adrian Newey, had ensured her she did totally fine and they were sure she could handle qualifying and the race herself.
And they were right. Maja found it fun to watch via the small screens that showed her every side of the Red Bull. She could hear what Daniel said to his engineer and he found a slight turbulence on the front right. Maja zoomed in on the car's statistics and she found that the wing was slightly more downwards on the right side.
Daniel set the fourth time and Maja immediately collected her stuff. Daniel was surprised to see her kneeled at his front right with a screwdriver. "Something was wrong?". Simon had mentioned over the radio that the mechanics were looking at it, but he didn't know what.
"Yes, a slight difference in height". Maja explained and her small fingers worked quickly on the parts that needed to be changed a little.
"Oh, okay". Daniel looked at what she was doing and if he had more time, he'd definitely ask what she was changing. P4 was fine for now and the mechanics screwed another set of tyres under the bolide for Q2. "How's the real deal going so far?". He asked, sitting on the tyre as Maja was done, cleaning her hands with a small towel.
"Great!". She smiled. He opened his mouth to say something as his engineer called him over. Daniel rolled his eyes, which caused Maja to laugh.
Maja looked towards the other side of the pit box where his team mate Daniil Kyvat was in a busy conversation with his engineer as well. She didn't meet Daniil yet as she was mostly working on Daniel's side of the pit box, but she had met Pyry Salmela, his personal trainer.
They were practically everywhere together, but somehow she managed to meet Pyry as Daniil was away for a sponsor event. She found him a very nice guy and was sure she'd like Daniil as well.
Maja crossed the pit lane again as Daniel left the box for Q2. The cars were lined up at the pit lane exit and very ready to go. Maja nodded at herself as she saw how positively the cars responded to her changes.
