After spending nearly 20 minutes admiring my sweet baby, I decided to walk back to the hospital room to talk with Jace and sort things out.

I walked back in to see two police officers and his parents standing in the room.

"Ms. Carolson, did Jace Wellman pull you down the stairs?" One of the officers asked as everyone stared at me.

I felt my blood run cold. I glanced at Jace who was still crying and his parents were standing next to him.

I didn't know how to answer. Should I admit the truth or lie to protect the father of my child and my only true love?

"Yes... he did." I admitted as tears brimmed my eyes. I didn't know of I made the right choice.

The second officer went over to Jace and handcuffed him and his parents came over to me.

"You're under arrest for battery. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in the court of law." The officer said as they walked with Jace outside of the room.

"I'm so sorry. I love you." He said, as he was taken away.

I was so confused.

"Jackson is absolutely shameful." His mother said, as she hugged me.

"He was just angry at the time." I said, as I started to cry. "He shouldn't go to jail."

"He'll be out soon. He has to pay the consequences. You never pull a pregnant woman down the stairs. I'm ashamed." His father added as I just looked at them both in disbelief.

"But, he was just-"

"Don't defend him, Callie. It's his fault." His mom said as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Yeah, don't blame yourself for his behavior. We know what happened. He should've obeyed your wishes and he didn't." His father added again.

My cries turned into sobs as I tried to comprehend what had happened. It didn't add up but I couldn't be bothered to attempt to make sense of it. I was extremely tired. I just wanted to sleep with my little baby in my arms. It was probably the hardest day of my life. I had a cesarean section, my rib was broken, my baby was in the incubator, my boyfriend was going to spend the night in jail and my heart was broken.
