Chapter 4: Haunted
Akira's P.O.V
I was happy. She said she's not lonely before to keep up her tough act but I'm so happy she opened up to me and trusts me. That's what it looks like, atleast.
It was filthy and there was grease on certain places of the ground. The dumpster was mucky and looking closer, you could see insects crawling every inch.
I gagged, this place..
"Where will we be sleeping?" Please don't say dumpsters, please don't. I know i chose to live in the dumpsters but..I'm really not used to this lifestyle..I'm such an idiot. I should've prepared myself for the worst!
"Theres a bench over there, you can sleep on that one. I could sleep in the dumpster that doesn't have dump in it."
Okay, okay, that's better and you may think I regret this a lot. I really don't though..It seems like it since i'm whining and everything but this is a new beginning and i'm sticking to it! I'm really trying my best here and I will try to stop whining..I promise.
Except the fact that we're sleeping next to dumpsters and in them. Er, sorry.
I shuddered. "On second thought--"
"Backyards or dumpsters, you chose this."
"But -- Well, i'm having second thoughts."
"Backyard then?" she rolled her eyes.
"I-I guess?" I stuttered, fiddling with my fingers nervously.
"I know a house. Never went there, though. They say someone died there."
Died..?
"Except I don't know if it's just rumors, but, the police never checks, and the house is just there for decoration pretty much," she continued.
"Why don't they check?"
"I dunno, probably because there's no point. The body is out, nobody is gonna buy it. They just leave it there for show."
I raised a brow, strange..
"Lets go."
Rin lead the way, obviously. I followed and looked around the city. There were a lot of homeless people and many couples clinging onto each other, one making a remark about how cute the other is.
Soon we stopped at a house. "Is this it?"
Rin nodded. "We have to go when nobody is looking"
"Okay.."
"Now!"
We both sprinted to the backyard.
It was a grassy area with lots of plants--most dead, and a deck that had stairways leading to the backdoor. Birds were minding their own business, pecking the grass.
Rin looked under the deck and found a mattress. "Our luck?"
I observed the backdoor. In the corner of my eye, I saw her pulling out the mattress.
"Why would there be a mattress under their deck?" I chuckled.
"For people like us, duh," she asserted.
I smiled, "But, let's try to get in the house."
"Someone died in there," she raised a brow.
"Wasn't that just a rumor?" I rolled my eyes.
"I said maybe."
I pouted.
She sighed, "Whatever you say, princess. First, help me get this back in."
I helped her push the mattress back in and we both went up the deck.
"So, how do we get this thing open?" she gestured the the door with her thumb.
I smirked, took out a sword that was hiding in my long pocket. and unsheathed it.
After taking a glance at Rin, I used a spell to create a solid and transparent barrier around the glass so it doesn't go all over the place. Then, I broke the glass with my sword.
"Impressive."
"Thank you," I smiled.
