"I'm not that kind of man anymore."

Tony was shocked. He hadn't been sleeping around since Afghanistan. He wasn't that person anymore, or at least he tried not to be. But when Captain freaking America pushed him against the wall while kissing him it was kind of hard to say no. If you know what I mean.

The engineer had been crushing on his team leader since he was a damn teenager. This could just as well have been a wet dream.

"Steve-"

Tony was interrupted with another kiss but when Steve pulled back he was blushing and grinning shyly. "Sorry Stark. You know I'm, I'm not that kind of person either... I just thought... well, it doesn't matter. Let me take you on a date? Please? I'd... I'd like to do this properly." Steve appeared half confident and half hesitant. He obviously wanted this but was afraid of the answer he would get.

And suddenly Tony couldn't stop grinning. "Of course Stevie. I'd like that." He said honestly. After all, this crush he had could easily grow into something more if he let it. And Steve asking him out was an opportunity he was not going to pass on.

Steve grinned back and Tony's day suddenly looked incredibly bright.

-

Their date was perfect and incredibly cliché. They went to the movies and then dinner, talking all evening until the restaurant closed, stumbling into a cab while laughing and letting tension build inside the small space of the backseat.

Tony didn't want the night to end and eagerly returned the kiss Steve had pulled him into. The two made their way into the elevator while never stopping their kiss and up to Tony's floor.

Tony thought it was the best night of his life.

-

The next morning arrived too bright. Too early. Too cold.

Next to Tony the bed was cold and empty. And he didn't understand. The night had been such a success. The sex had been great. So where was Steve?

When Tony asked Jarvis he was told the blond supersoldier was out back on the communal floor, making breakfast for himself.

Confused the genius wrapped himself in a soft bathrobe and headed down to the shared team floor. Maybe there had been some miscommunication. And if there was anything his relationship with Pepper had taught him it was how important communication was.

"Stark? What are you doing here?" Steve asked as Tony walked in.

The brunette raised an eyebrow and leaned casually against the breakfast bar. "You tell me Cap. Why am I down here instead of upstairs with you?" He asked bluntly. Always straight to the point.

This time it was Steve's turn to raise an eyebrow before chuckling amused. "Why would we be upstairs? It was just sex Stark. Surely you of all people understand that?"

Tony blinked. What? Where was that shy smiling blond that asked him out the day before? "Who are you and what did you do to Steve?" Who was this strange cold man?

The Captain snorted while stirring through his scrambled eggs. "I was in the army remember? I know what casual sex is Stark." Those piercing blue eyes suddenly matched his chocolate brown ones and Tony felt himself shrink with embarrassment. "Hang on... You didn't think... Look Stark, you're not exactly... Relationship material." Steve added with a shrug just as Clint walked in.

"Who isn't relationship material?" The archer asked while stealing a piece of bacon from Rogers and getting a glare in return.

Tony didn't hear what was said, lost in his thoughts. He was filled with hurt and anger. He had been used.
While Tony had slept around in the past, he always made it perfectly clear up front that all he wanted was a casual hook up, nothing serious. While Steve... Steve had agreed to a date after Tony said he wanted something more serious. It hurt. A lot.
