Ethan's POV
Man...why does life have to be so difficult? I think as i shake my head. Why couldn't have the portal just worked? That would have been much better.
I really don't want to go back to my mother's house. Not now, not ever. However, this is how the world is gonna go.
I sigh as it grows darker. I lead Alex and Arina to my house. I'm honestly pretty scared, I mean hopefully my mother is asleep but if she isn't.. Well then. I'll be in trouble.
The streets are empty, everyone is in their houses either eating or sleeping or doing something I don't care about, and Arina shivers next to me. My grandmother had slapped on every coat she had from the war onto her and Arina still seems to be freezing.
Alex flaps her wings excitedly on the other side of me. "Our very first mission! Is this exciting or what?!"
I give her a look and Arina's teeth chatter as an answer. "Let's just get everything over with, and then get out of here," She whispers and I couldn't have agreed more.
We make it to my house, Alex slipping for the one hundredth time over the iced streets. "Ouch!" She giggles again and gets up, shaking the snow off her as I walk to the front window.
"She's not in the living room, so she must be asleep," I whisper to Arina who comes up next to me.
She mumbles something in Ruskyian that I can't understand, sighing with relief right after. "Alright, good. How do we get in?"
I purse my lips, squinting my eyes as I take a few steps back, looking up towards the roof. "There's a chimney up there..."
Arina scowls lightly. "I can't turn into anything to help me up there..."
She turns to me. "Can you fly us-"
"Uh... No. No I can't. I... My wings are... Weak."
She squints her eyes and I don't meet them, turning towards the roof again.
"Alright... How else are we going to get up there?" Her voice trails off and we both slowly turn to Alex.
She is kneeled in the snow, making a snowman. "Guys look! I haven't done this in ages!"
Arina and I meet eyes with a annoyed expression.

"You guys... Are so... So heavy.""You're an Owanel, you can carry tons of weight."
"I'm 17 years old! I'm not even an adult yet for my kin!"
Arina and I are hanging onto Alex's back as she flaps her wings towards the top of my house. Arina rolls her eyes. "Just don't think about it! And hurry! This wind you're pushing is making my teeth turn into ice!"
Alex huffs, pushing herself farther into the air and landing awkwardly on the house roof. She flails her arms at the loss of balance and falls onto the roof, crushing Arina and I.
"Ow..." I mumble as Alex giggles.
"Wo, you two feel weird."
"Get off me, you buzzard!" Arina mumbles furiously, cursing in Ruskyian and Alex rolls off us.
"Buzzard?! Sense when was I a buzzard?! Excuse you, I am an owl!"
Arina doesn't respond and I get up, giving her a hand which she ignores.
She gets up, dusting herself and walking over to the chimney. Alex and I watch silently as she peers into it, signaling us to come closer.
