"Someone stop her!" I hear a familiar voice shout in outrage and i turn from my position behind Ethan on the stairs to where the torturer can be seen, staring right at Hope.
The soldiers all stop what they're doing, rushing to Hope who is quickly finishing the symbol and i squint my eyes in a glare.
I raise my hand, using my smartly held up magic to cast a large spell that makes a golden barrier wrap around Hope and Chang.
The soldiers all yell, swords whacking and hands punching against the force field as Chang glares, touching the golden surface and a ripple goes through it, shocking all that touched it and making soldiers fly back.
Ethan, who still has his eyes closed, rapidly shoots a web of ice at the torturer, who gets stuck against the wall. Her purple eyes flame in anger and Ethan slowly lets his hand down, eyes opening and he blinks like coming out of a dream.
He turns to look at me, white doe eyes wide. "Was that good?"
I smile at him, nodding. "Very good."
Ethan stares at me for the longest time, eyes analytical before the smell of burnt wood hits my nose.
Ethan and i turn towards where Hope and Chang stand, the symbol complete and Chang depletes the barrier just when the symbol turns bright gray, the whole house shuddering.
"Get down!" Hope shouts and i wrap my arms around Ethan who shouts at the contact, bringing him down behind the stair rails, making another barrier appear around us.
Alex wraps her wings around Clara, Arina and Mitch, head down and Chang covers Hope with his body just when the symbol bursts with energy, white powder exploding from the ridges of the writing.
The torturer's eyes widen as mist fills the room and she disappears just when it hits her.
And i know exactly why.
As soon as the soldiers all do so much as breathe, their souls are forcefully ripped from their bodies, being sucked right into the symbol, powering it up and making a circular opening that shows the misty gray town of Quinzal just on the other side.
"Go now! While it's open, it won't stay open forever!" Hope shouts, and when the mist clears Alex lets the others go who bolt for the portal.
Arina skillfully grabs her satchel, jumping through and i can't see her on the other side.
I give Ethan a confused look as i tuck the barrier away, standing and taking his cold hand as we run down the stairs.
"That's not a portal to Quinzal..." Ethan mutters as Clara jumps through next, not appearing on the other side where the town should be.
It was a mirage.
Truthfully, i had no idea where this portal would lead us.
Mitch jumps through next, Alex swiftly following after him.
"It's alright. The portal will take us to somewhere in Quinzal. Not the town it shows. That's the thing about Quizal, Ethan. It's filled with Droicia, and they are known to indecisive and untrustworthy. Anything involving Quizal is."
Hope jumps through next, but Ethan is a little hesitant. "Will we all end up together?" Chang straightens from where he stands next to the portal, giving the both of us a smile.
"You all should be fine."
I tilt my head. "Are you not coming with us?" I ask and Chang shakes his head.
"This is where we separate paths, my heroes. We'll meet again, but i'm not safe here anymore, and Mary needs the company if she will be helping us out."
