The guard shoves us into the cell, and i trip over my own feet. Thankfully, the cells down here aren't as hot as upstairs and the guard locks the cell, grumbling.
"Your other girls are being questioned. You are to remain in here until further notice."
"What are you doing to do with us?" Liam asks and the guard hesitates before shrugging.
"How should I know? We usually keep people like you here, or get the government to take you away."
I shudder and Liam bites his lip, glaring. "Fine. We'll stay in here."
The guard snorts. "Not like there's anywhere to go stowaways..."
He begins to walk back up the stairs and once I know he's definitely gone, I sigh and fall to the floor. "I'm sweating so much I could make a pond."
Liam sits down next to me, crossing his legs. "That would be pretty disgusting."
I don't respond, the suit I'm wearing cooling by body down by the minute. "What are we going to do?" I ask him and Liam shrugs.
"I don't know... Arina is good at this type of stuff, and I'm new... I wouldn't ask me those types of questions if I were you."
I turn to him, sitting up. "Can't you use your magic to try and get us out of here?"
"I would. But that's a death wish..." He hesitates, tilting his head and slowly looking down to the cobblestone floor. "Or maybe..."
"Maybe what?"
He turns to me, eyes squinting. "How about we work on your powers now?"
I blink. "That was random."
He smiles. "Trust me, you'll need it for what I'm planning."
I give a shrug and Liam stands. "Good. Sit with your back against the wall."
I slowly get up and move to the back of the room, crossing my legs. Liam comes over, sitting next to me. "Close your eyes."
I do it, crossing my hands in front of me.
"Uncross your fingers and set them on your knees. Be as light as possible and open. Make sure you can feel all the air around you."
I uncross my hands, setting them on my knees and straightening. "Okay..."
"Now. I want you to imagine something happy."
I spiral down into my memories, seeing my grandmother. She smiles down at me, shaking an ice rattle and I laugh loudly, grabbing for it.
I can feel myself smile and Liam straightens next to me. "Channel that emotion into your stomach and make sure you can feel it building. Turn it cold and bitter."
I frown, but imagine the memory running through my stomach and my core begins to feel ice cold.
"I want you to hold it there..." His voice next to me turn breathy, and distant. It echoes and the coldness begins to spread.
"Don't make it spread. Don't make it bigger. Hold it there..."
I feel my face tighten with concentration as the cold bites down, sending a shock up my spine and I jump.
"Careful. Don't force it, make it come willingly..."
I bite my lip and slowly feel the cold come back down, shuddering slightly in the abyss.
"Stay like that for a minute. I'm counting..."
The coldness turns and rolls, making me uncomfortable but I keep it there. I keep it to a reasonable amount, trying not to think of anything else.
