Chapter 6: Zaley and Heartbreak

August 28th

The girls meet up with the guys and head to the party. Lucas has his arm around Maya and Zay is sitting by Riley. Of course Maya and Riley are inseparable so they sit next to each other. 

"So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your rover," Riley, Maya and Smackle sang. 

"Do you three always have to listen to music anytime we go anywhere?" Farkle said making a sharp turn.

"Of course, we are three normal fifteen year olds so we always listen to music. Basically music is our life," Riley said giggling. Lucas looked over at Riley and smiled. Riley caught him and locked eyes with him for a minute or so. 

"Whose party is this anyways?" Maya asked.

"Missy Bradford's," Farkle said pulling onto the street the house was on.

"Remember when Missy was going to take Lucas on a date to the movies but he savagely declined," Farkle asked.

"Yeah, and Riley got really angry at her," Maya jumped in. 

"I remember that!" Farkle said glancing up at Lucas in the rearview mirror.

"I don't even understand why she even asked me," Lucas replied hoping to change the subject.

"Here we are," Farkle said parking the car. They all climbed out and headed inside to the party. Maya and Riley hit the dance floor and Zay talked to Farkle on how to catch the perfect time to ask out Riley.

"You shouldn't be upfront about it," Farkle said," Get into a conversation about what she looks for in a man or something like that. When she seems to be really into the conversation then pop the question." 

"Ok," Zay asked," but how do I get into a conversation and not become all awkward?

"Ask her about Lucas or Maya," Farkle said," She loves talking about them." 

"Okay thanks," Zay asked.

Lucas was sitting on the couch by Smackle fiddling her thumbs.

"Why don't you go up and dance with Maya and Riley?" Lucas asked.

"Well, I am not really a dancer," Smackle said," I am a scientist. I know the first 250 numbers of pi but I don't know how to dance with my friends." (Don't ask me if Smackle knows any pi but she probably does since she is Smackle -TF) 

"You seem so normal around us five but when it comes to dancing you shut down into Smackle's brain?" Lucas said,"C'mon, I'll dance with you."

"Why aren't you dancing with Maya?" Smackle asked.

"Well, Maya and Riley are forever. They are best friends and Riley is Maya's world. They want the best for each other and I never want them to be apart," Lucas said, "Especially because of me."

"So you would sacrifice dancing with the love of your life so she can dance with Maya?" Smackle asked.

"What?" Lucas said.

"It is clear that you have feelings for Maya but it is obvious that you and Riley have real chemistry," Smackle said.

"What do you mean?" Lucas asked.

Smackle said," You look at Riley like she is your world. You look at Maya like she is Maya. You talk to Riley in this soft sweet caring voice like you never want you two to ever get up and walk away. You talk to Maya like you talk to Zay or Farkle. You comfort Riley like she just had everything she had lost but you never do that to Maya. You comfort Maya but not as caring and long as you comfort Riley. You would drop everything and anything to make sure Riley is okay but Maya you would probably finish up what you are doing first then make sure she is okay. It's obvious to Zay, Farkle and I that you shouldn't be with Maya but with Riley. Riley and you have liked each other since you moved here. The second you laid eyes on Riley and she laid eyes on you the chemistry started and the connection between you two was undeniable and still is. Riley and you have actual chemistry. Not forced chemistry like you and Maya."
