Chapter 7: Confused and Confessions

August 28th

"Why would she do this to me, Riley?" Lucas said. Tears were falling slowly down his face. It was obvious that he was upset.

"I don't know, Lucas," Riley answered.

It was about half an hour after Lucas saw Maya kissing Josh. He was still pretty upset. He was hurt.

"I thought she wouldn't ever hurt me," Lucas said," she really hurt me."

"But you did the same thing," Riley pointed out," You kissed me at the park not that long back."

"I'm such a jerk," Lucas said as his face flushed with red with embarrassment," I am a out here being heartbroken getting cheated on but I cheated on her with you before school started." 

"It's okay," Riley said comforting Lucas.

"Smackle, Farkle and Zay have been saying that it is obvious that I love you more than I like Maya,"Lucas said," What if I do? I don't want to ruin your friendship but I really like you, Riley."

"I am sure it will be fine," Riley said," It always is."

"I am sure that it will," Lucas said smiling at Riley," I really like you, Riley." 

"I really like you, too," Riley said looking into Lucas' green eyes.

"Every time I see your brown eyes I can't help but fall in love with you. I don't like Maya like that, Riley Matthews, I love you," Lucas confessed.

"Where is Riley and Lucas?" Farkle asked," It has been a half hour since we last seen them." Farkle, Smackle, Maya, Josh and Zay were standing around trying to figure out where Riley and Lucas were.

"This is all my fault," Josh said," If I didn't kiss you, Maya."

"Wait you kissed Maya," Zay said.

"Yeah, the way her blue eyes were sparkling I couldn't stop myself," Josh said," I am sorry, Maya." 

"It is fine, Josh," Maya said.

"Why did Riley go with Lucas?" Josh asked.

"Whenever one of them is hurt the other one is always there to comfort them," Farkle said.

"Because they care about each other," Smackle said.

"When Riley was getting cyber bullied Lucas was willing to go back to his old self to make sure that she wouldn't get bullied again by the person," Farkle said.

"They really have a special bond," Maya said.

"They do don't they," Josh said.

"I have always seen that in them," Farkle said,"Ever since the first day that Lucas came to John Quincy Adams Middle School."

"The connection was obvious when they first met," Maya said thinking back to the subway incident,"The way his eyes sparkled when she fell into his lap." 

"Really," Farkle said.

"But she stepped down from him because he seemed interested in me," Maya said," They never realized their true feelings for each other because of me." 

"What do you mean, Maya," Farkle said.

"They have feelings for each other but I am the reason they didn't realize and have them," Maya said

"Do you wanna know something, Riley?" Lucas said.

"What?" Riley said looking at Lucas.

"I just realized that the only reason I didn't go for you was because I thought you didn't like me," Lucas said," I guess I thought you were too good for me. I don't want to hurt Maya and ruin your friendship with her. I don't know what to do." 

"I love you, Lucas," Riley said smiling. Lucas leaned in and placed his lips on Riley's. They pulled off and Lucas looked into Riley's eyes.

"When I kissed you the first time I didn't know how happy it would make me. Now kissing you again made me realize why I fell for you. Being with you makes it feel like fireworks are blowing up. Kissing you makes time stop. Riley Matthews, I love you and Maya has never made me feel this way. Ever," Lucas said," I can't take dating Maya any longer. I have to tell her the truth." 

"I am coming with you," Riley said," I have stuck by your side since seventh grade, it's not gonna stop here."

"I have to break up with Lucas," Maya said," He would be happier with Riley," 

"Wait but Zay did you ever ask out Riley," Smackle interrupted.

"Yeah," Zay said quietly," She said yes but she would be happier with Lucas." 

"You will find that special girl, Zay," Maya said.

"I hope so," Zay said.

"Maya!" Lucas yelled dragging Riley behind him.

"Lucas, I need to talk to you," Maya said.

"You go first," Lucas said.

"I think it would be better if we say it at the same time," Maya said smiling.

"We need to break up," Lucas and Maya said.

"Whoa," Riley said.

"Riley, I really like you and you make me so happy but it is obvious that you and Lucas have a connection that has been there since day one. He makes you so happy and I love seeing you happy," Zay said," I am sorry but I think you need Lucas more than me." Riley gave a hug to Zay.

"We will always be friends Zay," Riley said smiling looking into his brown eyes.

"So, Riley," Lucas said. 

"Not yet," Riley said.

"What?" Josh said.

"I have a reason behind it," Riley said.
