It's been about an hour since Abraham knocked Eugene out, cold. I was so anxious. Tara was pouring a bit of water on Eugene since it was scorching hot out here. We left whenever the sun first rose over the horizon and we got stuck around near noon and now it was noon, blazing hot. After that, Tara began getting up. "You-" "I'm stayin'" I told her before she could finish. She then walked off to where Maggie, Rosita, and Glenn were at. I heard them mumbling about Eugene but I couldn't make out what they were saying. I felt them look over to me. "Don't tell Ashley." I heard Maggie mumble to them. I sighed deeply. I saw Rosita walk over to a pissed off Abraham, but turned my attention to Eugene again. What stirred me to my feet was when Abraham knocked the water bottle out of Rosita's hand. I slowly walked over to Maggie when Rosita was getting in his face. "Look at me. Look at me!" Rosita screamed at Abraham. Abraham stood over Rosita like a giant ready to beat her to a pulp. I pulled out and clicked my gun, pointing it at Abraham's head. I was practically shaking all over. "Sit down or I'll put you down." I commanded to Abraham as I hovered my finger over the trigger. Abraham looked over to me for a second, turned back forward and sat down. I then placed my gun back to my hollister. We then gathered back together. "We need more water." Glenn announced. "There's a creek up the road a few miles southwest of here." Tara informed us. I felt like I should stay just in case Eugene woke up or something. I stepped in. "Y'all go. I'll stay here." I told them. "You sure, Ashley?" Glenn asked me as he put his hand on my shoulder. I sighed. "I am." I said looking up at him. "Okay." Rosita said. Glenn then patted my back as the others began walking ahead. I sat down on the ledge staring at poor Abraham. Who knows what is going through his mind right now. I walked back over to Eugene and checked his symptoms. His pulse and blood pressure is steady, but it will get lower in the this heat. So I poured some of my water on him, which hopefully will do some good. But then I got an idea. I walked over to the back of the truck and pulled down the ladder and dragged it to where Eugene was. I then put the ladder over Eugene with the top of the truck keeping it in balance. Lastly, I grabbed some cloth from the inside of the truck and put it over the ladder, tucking it in so the cloth wouldn't fall. I successfully covered Eugene up from the sun. I crouched down to Eugene and looked to see if anyone was around. No one, good. I leaned in and pecked a kiss on Eugene's forehead. I got up and saw Abraham still crouched down to his knees. Anger, suddenly, boiled in me. I then walked over to Abraham. "Get over yourself. You're not the only one who lost something today. It's never gonna get any better than this." I snapped at him as I walked away with tears down my face. Although it wasn't today, but yesterday a while before Tara found me I had lost my older sister. She committed suicide right in front of me to let me get away. I still grieve over it.
