Chapter 16

Another month passed since that incident. A lot of crazy shit had happened. First off, we had gotten overrunned by walkers and to lead them away. Carl lost an eye. But otherwise, fine. And I was really excited tonight. Eugene and I have been together for 3 months now. I loved this man so much. So tonight, I am going to propose to him. Yes, I know. It's always the man who proposes but hey a lady can have a chance. I needed to talk to Rick about the celebration party. "Hey Rick." I called to him. "Oh hey, girlie. What's up?" Rick asked me as he walked up to me. We were all outside working and stuff. "Nothing, but I need a favor." I told him. "Oh really? What is that?" Rick asked. "Umm..well." I paused. I leaned in to Rick. "I'm wanting to propose to Eugene tonight." I whispered. Rick's face lit up. "Awesome! When?" Rick asked. "At around 9. I want everyone to jump out and surprise Eugene after he says Yes. Or if he does." I explained to Rick. "Of course he will. And yes that will be good. I will spread the word to everyone except for Eugene of course." Rick told me. "Thanks, man." I said. I hugged Rick and he hugged back. I released and walked off. I hope tonight goes well.

It was almost 9 o'clock. I walked into Eugene's room and found him reading my book he never got to finish. "Hey, Eugene." I called to him as I leaned on the doorway. "Yes, hon?" Eugene questioned. "Come on. Let's take a walk around the neighborhood." I suggested. "Alright." He said. Eugene marked his spot on the book, got up,and walked to me. I walked out, with him following, and out the house. This is it. You got this Ashley. Everyone was hiding behind Rick's house and our van parked on the side across from his house. We then approached next to the house. My heart was pounding fast. I started taking deep breaths in and out. "You are wanting to tell me something." Eugene said. I looked up at him. Eugene was looking down at me with concern. "Yes.Yes I do." I told him. I held his hand. I hanged my head down. And then looked back up at him. "Eugene Porter." I started. I looked behind and saw Rick giving me the signal to get on with it. "Will you..." I paused. Nothing else came out. I was too scared to ask. I ended up stuttering my words. "Will I marry you?" Eugene asked. I looked at him. "I-Is that what you wanted to ask?" Eugene added. "Y-Yes. It is." I answered him. I pulled my ring and his that I found off of a walker. I placed his ring in his hand and held mine in the other. "Will you marry me, Eugene Porter?" I asked him. Eugene started smiling. And crying. "Yes. Yes I will!" Eugene exclaimed. Suddenly everyone jumped out and screamed. Eugene nearly jumped out of his shoes. I just sat there laughing like an evil person. "Don't worry it is all planned." I explained to him. Eugene sighed in relief. That was when Father Gabriel walked up to us with a book. He was saying the vows of marriage and all that. "Ashley, do you take Eugene to be your lawfully, wedded husband?" Gabriel asked me. I held on to both of Eugene's hands. "I do." I said. Eugene smiled. "Eugene do you take Ashley to be your lawfully, wedded wife?" Gabriel asked Eugene. "Y-Yes. I do." Eugene answered. "I pronounce you as husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." Gabriel announced. Eugene and I then leaned in, with our eyes shut, and kissed. Everyone began cheering and whooping. We released and Eugene and I smiled at each other. "Alright let's let these two have some space." Rick announced. Everyone began descending, congratulating us as they walked by, and eventually we were alone. Eugene then, all of the sudden, picked me up bridal style and carried me inside his house. I hope he knows that I am well, not ready for that. Eugene gently sat me down on his bed and climbed into bed next to me. I began stroking Eugene's mullet as he did the same to mine. "I want to give it a few days by the way before we do..well you know." I announced. Eugene turned to me. "I was thinking the same." Eugene told me. I smiled as I kissed his lips. But right now I was exhausted. "Goodnight, Eugene." I told him as I rolled over to where my back was facing him. "Goodnight, Ashley." Eugene told me. He reached over me and turned the lamp off. We got in the covers. A few seconds went by and Eugene wrapped his arm around me. "I'm sorry. I tend to cuddle." Eugene informed me. I wrapped my arm around his, locking hands together. "So do I." I told him. Eugene leaned in and kissed my temple. "I love you." Eugene told me. "I love you too, ya big goof." I told him. We both fell asleep shortly after that.
