Ciel's POV
We were first going to the crime scenes, we would see the bodies later (a task which would likely entail a trip to the Undertaker's).
The house of the first victim, Minnie Clements, was large, fancy and likely rather expensive albeit likely not as large or expensive as the Trancy or Phantomhive estates, but still rather respectable. Despite this, the house was filled with cobwebs, and had a gloomy feel to it. The home was filled with the aura of death, it stank of rotting flesh and iron, especially the room were the murder took place.
When we entered you could see there had been little struggle, though blood still stained the sheets of the little girls bed. I turned to see Alois' reaction, or rather lack of thereof. His face was blank and grim, his skin slightly pale, but likely nothing to be worried about.
The house of the second victim was a lot smaller, but also filled with cobwebs and harbouring the same stench of death. We had been round all of the houses, asked questions, though nothing had aided us in our attempts. The Undertaker, as much as I hate to admit it, was the next stop.
I opened the door, hearing the all too familiar eerie tinkle of the shop bell. The silver haired shinigami stood with his elbows rested on a barrel of salt, his signature grin plastered all over his pale, almost grey face.
"I've been expecting you Phantomhive, and Trancy, here about the murders are we?" He asked in his high, wavering voice.
"Yes. We are." I snapped, glaring at the silver haired creep. He chuckled,
"Now, now, don't worry, nothing's going to happen to Minnie or Issac or any of the others, they're all safe and sound..." he informed. I felt one of my lower eyelids twitch involuntarily. "But as I'm sure you know, I don't just give out information for free..." He added slyly. "All I ask for is a little entertainment..." (NOT LIKE THAT YOU PERVS!) he added. I resisted the urge to do something violent.
"Look. We don't have time for this nonsense. There are murders that need solving and you are not helping in the slightest! Besides, not aiding us will mean more deaths and consequently more work for your fellow reapers! I gather you and that weirdo Sutcliffe are relatively good friends," I snapped. Alois just remained silent behind me.
The Undertaker chuckled, tapping his long nails against the top of a nearby barrel, awaiting what he sought.
"Please! This is for the Queen for peat's sake! We can't have another person dead just because we can't find any clues as to who the murderer is!" Alois yelped, startling me and pleasantly surprising the Undertaker, who gave a pleased smile and small giggle at Alois' outburst.
"Very well... But I doubt you'll find anything useful."~A small time skip, olé!~
I looked over some of the bodies, all exactly the same, stab wounds in the region of the vital organs with little signs of struggle.
The only thing we could find was an almost microscopic strip of gold or a gold-like substance where what was presumably the murder weapon had grazed the rib cage of one of the victims. We went back to the Trancy manor, our search fruitless, Alois sitting across from me in the carriage.
He had his knees pulled up to his chest, his shoulders slumped and his half-lidded eyes trained on the floor. "Are you all right Lord Trancy?" I asked, obviously because it was my duties as his butler... Not because I had actually cared about him or anything...
"Hmmm..." I sighed, I doubted he had been listening. "I-if I hadn't been so reliant on C-Claude to solve all of our cases and actually got off my lazy **** and did it myself I-I probably wouldn't be as useless..." He stammered. For the second time today I felt a painful tugging sensation inside my chest. I bit my lip before replying,
"You're not useless."
Alois looked up at me in surprise, and I let my long fringe cover my face to conceal the faint blush that dusted my cheeks. Alois didn't reply, eventually falling asleep part way through the journey back.
I hoped I hadn't done anything wrong...A/N: Oh my gosh, Ciel is feeling human emotions! *Shocked gasps*
Anywho, you've probably figured out the murderer by now, but hey, I am not practiced at writing crime/mystery novels, in fact, I've never written one in my entire life to my knowledge. I tried.
I hope all my fellow nerds and otakus enjoyed this here chapter, and until next time, serpent author out!
