No one's POV
Alois sat by Ciel's bed, a bandage over his eye and his various cuts and bruises treated. They had rented the room at the nearest hotel for a week since they couldn't go back to the Trancy manor with Ciel in the condition he was in.
Alois was sat with this his knees pulled up to his chin on a wooden chair, waiting restlessly for Ciel to awaken and say it was fine. That was the only thing in the world he wanted to hear at that point.
The hotel wasn't the prettiest nor most luxurious of places, being cold with no real source of heat, the floor made from stone and a few gas-lamps were the only sources of illumination. Evidently the building had not been touched by the wonders of the electric lightbulb yet... Or any electricity at all for that matter.
Hannah was in her own room, doing whatever demons do when their masters aren't looking, though whatever it was did little to break the heavy, depressed, deafening silence, the sort of silence that screamed into your ears, and would greatly amplify any occasional sound like a megaphone.
Alois gazed anxiously at Ciel, his chest slowly moving up and down, at a thankfully now regular pace, his face serene and his body motionless.
Reaching out the young blonde gently stroked Ciel's cheek with a shaking hand as he felt another tear slip from his eye. He should have acted sooner, this mightn't of happened if Alois had pulled his act together and done something sooner... It was his fault... The entire thing was his fault... He always ended up pulling others down, hindering them, hurting them, emotionally and physically.
Alois was pulled from his thoughts by a soft groan. He was quick to focus on the blue eyed demon that lay before him, an unpleasant mixture of guilt and happiness filling him. Alois was glad Ciel was awake but also all too aware that Ciel's condition was his own doing.
The blunette pushed himself into a sitting position, holding his head, though was quick to notice the distraught earl by his side. He let out a sigh...
"Alois, before you launch into a long winded apology..." Ciel began, covering his mouth as he coughed. "Don't blame yourself. I know you will, and therefore me saying this is probably completely pointless, but please don't. I'm alive, you're alive, and we'd both probably be dead if you hadn't intervened," He ended. Ciel's voice was hoarse and strained and he would occasionally have to pause to cough. This did little to ease the guilt and worry that sat on the shoulders on the blonde, who was a few inches off a full on mental break down, but was barely holding it together.
"W-would you like some water?" Was the only thing the Alois could manage out at the moment in time. Ciel shook his head, one of his rare smiles playing on his lips.
"I really cannot help but see the irony of this situation... But if it's not any bother that would be nice," he rasped out. Alois nodded curtly, glad to have something to temporarily distract himself with. Since the only taps in the room were not for drinking from, he had to ask the bar attender downstairs...
He gave Ciel the requested glass of water before Hannah nocked the door and asked to talk. The two sat in Alois' room, on the bed. "How is Ciel?" She asked, her tone quiet as it used to be.
"He's breathing normally..." Hannah sighed, it was obvious this wasn't the real reason she asked for Alois. She could have asked Ciel herself if she'd wanted to.
"Alois... I am aware words cannot make up for what I have done..." She began. Alois had no reply. "It was wrong... I shouldn't have... What would Luka think..." The demon covered her one remaining eye, a pained expression on her face.
"Please don't talk about Luka..." Alois mumbled. The tension between the two practically was thick enough to cut like butter.
"Yes... You're right, I'm sorry... I shouldn't... I-I offer you my service to try and make up for what I have done, I understand I can never truly fix my wrongdoings, but I hope to try and at least improve your situation, especially until Ciel is well again." Alois just again pulled his knees up to his chin, staying quiet, for it was either that or he was probably going to end up screaming.
"C-can I have a moment, t-to myself?" Alois requested. Hannah complied without a word, leaving the room, and as soon as she did so, Alois let the tears that had been forming the corners of his eye stream out. His tears were mostly silent, that way nobody knew.A/N: Sorry if this wasn't the most amazing chapter, and I'm sorry this was up quite late due to hinderances, but I hope it wasn't that bad.
Until next time my fellow nerds and otakus, serpent author out!🐉
