Ciel's POV

I explained to Alois what I was about to do, and he agreed mostly without complaint, save for a "don't try anything that could anger him," and "play fair."

I sat across a table from the demon, holding a chess piece in my hand, fixing my opponent with a piercing glare as he bored holes into the back of my head, though I was not to going to let him see how worried I really was.
I was going first, I was using the white pieces.
*Click* I moved a piece forward, silence ringing in the air, feeling as if the world was rested on my shoulders and a large rock was settled in my stomach. *Clack* he moved.
*Click clack click clack* one of my pawns was captured. *Click clack click clack* another one. *Click clack click clack click* I captured on of his. My limbs were tense, and my heart pounded against the inside of my chest like a sledge hammer.
I licked my dry lips, my throat feeling like a desert as I felt myself get hot around the collar, though I forced myself to remain painfully calm and emotionless, putting on my best poker face. I had a plan, I was just hoping he fell for it.
My second knight was captured. I adjusted my king. Nothing. I moved a pawn. My rook was captured. I adjusted my queen. He moved closer to my king. I captured on of his bishops. My hands were slightly shaky by this point, my body screaming for liquid and a headache pounding at my skull. Claude smiled mockingly at me from across the table, silently teasing me. I couldn't let myself be distracted, I couldn't let myself act irrationally out of emotion, I could loose sight of my next move.

This went on for some while, hours possibly, or at least it certainly felt like it, until I was left with only my king and a few other pieces. Claude's various pieces were scattered around the board, one of his knights a move away from my king, but I had him right were I wanted him. I let a small smirk form on my face. His king stood directly across the board from my queen. He stared at me, slight disbelief hidden behind his glasses.
"Check mate." I captured his king, a weight being lifted from my chest.
Claude's mouth formed a thin line as he stood up, excusing himself from the house. I had let him take down nearly all my pieces, deliberately playing dumb and luring the rest of his pieces out to the sides, convincing him I had lost and he had won.
I stood up, walking into the living room to see Alois.
He looked up at me with fearful, teary eyes. "A-a-are y-you all r-right?" He stammered.
"Yes, are you?" I replied. "I did win, don't worry." Alois stared up at me, fresh tears shining in his eyes as grin formed in his face.
Next thing I knew Alois flung his arms round me, beginning to sob uncontrollably. I sighed, petting his hair contently, and as clichéd as this may sound... I felt, kind of, warm, light, free, as if I had wings, and they were some things I hadn't felt in a long time...
I must admit, I was worried Claude might go back on his word and kill Alois anyway. Yeah, fine, I'll admit it, I was actually concerned about Alois. Shut up...
"I-I was so stressed, i-it had gone so q-quiet... A-and I-I thought you were d-dead... O-or..."
"Hey, shush, it's all right, I'm fine, Claude's gone, the murders should stop," I murmured, starting to rock the young earl, deciding to let one of my rare smiles form on my face. "Do you wish for me to make some tea Lord Trancy?" I asked. Alois finally detached himself from me, a dark blush covering his cheeks.
"Y-yes please..." He mumbled, embarrassed. "Oh, and Ciel, p-please just call me Alois," he added shyly.
"Of course, Alois."

A/N: I dunno about this chapter, I don't know if I'm very good at writing the feelz, not to mention it's in Ciel's perspective and Ciel doesn't really do the whole "human emotions" thing too much... And I'm just not an amazing writer, but oh well, I hoped you liked this anyway, I actually tried really hard to get this to chapter to be good, so I hope it was worth it, eh... Until next time my fellow nerds and otakus, serpent author out!🐉
