Kasper P.O.V.
"Kasper..."
I rub the tired out of my eyes as sit up in bed. Who said that? I look around the room in confusion, seeing nothing but emptiness. What time is it? I look over at my alarm to see that the time is 4: 36.
"Kasper, are you there?"
"Huh?" I look up again in surprise. "H-Hello?" I respond curiously.
"Could you come to Emerald's room, please?" The voice asks softly.
"Oh, Der Ritter! Is that you?" I ask in realization.
"Yes(."
"Okay, I'll be right there." I say with a yawn. I throw my legs over the bed and slip my feet into a pair of slippers before leaving my room and walking down the hall. I wonder what it is he wants? I thought he was out with his family? Why is he here?
Once I reach the guest bedroom, I slowly turn the knob and take a look inside. Der Ritter is sitting on the bed with Emerald in his arms, asleep. The scene causes me to smile out of pity. The poor girl has been through so much.
"Had a nightmare?" I ask as he lifts his head from Emerald's face. "I believe so." He responds quietly before looking back down at her sleeping face. I quietly walk over to the bed and take a seat in from of him. "Do you think she'll be alright?" Der Ritter asks quietly, not looking up. I look at him in pity. It seems as though they can never find any peace.
"You know, I believe this experience may leave scars, but..." He looks up at me in expectation. "She's strong. She would have already broken by now if she wasn't." I say sincerely. "She's stronger than me, that's for sure!" I say with a chuckle.
He nods before leaning down to kiss her gently on the forehead. He then looks at her for a short while before looking back up at me and saying, "Would you be able to stay with her the rest of the night? I would stay with her, but if I stay any longer, her nightmares would only get worse." He says regretfully. "No, problem! I can do it." I say while smiling reassuringly. "Do you want me to contact you when she wakes?" I ask. "That would be nice." He responds monotonously. Suddenly the air began to change. It became so thick it was stifling. This sudden change causes me to become tense and on-edge.
"D-Der Ritt-"
"I hate it."
"What?" I ask in confusion. His face is dark and scrunched, and he seems as stiff as a block of wood. "I hate that I'm a monster and not a human. I hate that I was swooned by a human who I now love with all my being. I hate my societies rules and punishments. I hate the situation we're all in. I. Hate. It. All." He mutters the last one. As he talks, he begins to hold Emerald tighter. She whimpers and wiggles slightly in his arms. At this, the air instantly becomes lighter, and his face returns to normal. He looks down at her quickly, but she remains asleep.
"I should go now." He says quietly. He then lays Emerald slowly on the bed, draping the comforter over her frame. "Just call my name when she awakens." He says before kissing her lightly, and walking towards the door. He stops just before he leaves the room, and turns to look at me.
"I apologize for what happened just now; it was uncalled for." He says. I smile and say, "It's fine; don't worry about it." He then nods slowly before leaving the room, closing the door behind him.
