Emerald P.O.V.

“I’m so bored!”  I say quietly to myself as I lie on my bed and look at the ceiling.  I hadn’t left the house since I got here and I was getting antsy.  Kasper tried his best to keep me entertained and I thank him for that, but since I’m a bit of an outdoor person, being inside constantly is not my cup of tea.

As I wallow in my own boredom, I hear the front door open.  I get up quickly to see who it is.  Kasper was at work today and wouldn’t be back till around six o’clock, so who was it?  When I look over the balcony, which has a perfect view of the front door and kitchen, I see Kasper putting his coat and scarf up on the coat rack.  “Hey, what are you doing here so early?”  I yell down to him.  He jumps a little at the sudden voice and turns up towards me with a smile when he realizes it’s just me.  “Well, hello Emerald!” he calls back up to me.  “How many times do I have to tell you that you can call me Emmy?”  I ask jokingly.  “As many times as you have to!  I see no reason to shorten a pretty name like yours!”  I smile and wave him off as I head downstairs.  “But anyway, to answer your previous question, they let us off early to celebrate the day the company was founded.  They said it was a way to thank everyone for the hard work!”  “Well, aren’t you lucky!” I say.

“Aren’t I?  Anyway, I thought it was time for you to get out of the house.”  My eyes become wide and I start to get excited.  “Seriously?!  Thank goodness!  I mean, there nothing wrong with your house, but I don’t like being cooped up for a long time!  Where are we going?” I ask with anticipation.  He laughs and replies, “We’re going to the Plaza to get you some clothes of your own.  I thought you’d want some.  I also thought we could go out to eat while we’re at it.”  I had been wearing his and his sister’s old clothes, because of my sudden and unprepared arrival, so the news of getting my own, new clothes was magnificent.

“Okay then, let’s get going then!” I say impatiently.  “Just let me get freshened up a bit before we go okay?”  He says with a smile.  I nod and then I get an idea.  “Hey, can I wait outside?” I ask.  His smile then disappears from his face.  Ever since I got settled in, he’s been nervous about me going outside, because of the danger I was apparently in.  He was silent before saying, “Yes, but stay alert.” “Will do!”  I reply quickly, taking the coat and hat he gave me to use off the coat rack and opening the front door.

The cold air felt great on my face as I stepped outside and walked over to the chair that was right of the door.  The chair felt cold as ice as I sat down on it, but I didn’t mind.  The trees were still the coal black color, surrounded by fallen leaves that almost resembled fire.  I sat there for about 15 minutes, just taking in the outdoors calmly.  As I inspected the distant tree line lazily, I noticed a figure standing just inside the tree line.  I froze, staring intensely at the figure to try to decipher who it was.  From what I could tell, the figure had long, dark hair and a dress to match.  The figure’s skin was very pale, almost white.  I couldn’t make out the face, but I was starting to wonder if this person even had one.
