AN: So guys, what did you think of Vanessa? She's meant to be a bit of a creep.

Yesterday, when Ravenna had discussed her powers, I realised something. We both had powers but... only royals had powers. I was probably a glitch of some type... or maybe royals had powers because only people with powers became royals. But still... no one in my family had displayed any powers or even a legacy of power. Every day, I felt as if it became more and more imperative to go back to the dwarves and question them about what was happening. I needed to know. But we'd have to first defeat the Silver Backs because after Ravenna had discussed what happened, it was clear to us that the Silver Backs killed the girls. People like Jared lured them in with their looks and then killed them. The question was: why? What did they get out of killing innocent girls? I mean, Ruby had told us that werewolves transformed to protect others and occassionally fought each other for things such as land. But they didn't need to kill humans. Mostly, the wolves used their powers to go ahead in life while protecting humans from other supernatural creatures such as the hated vampires. Of course, she'd never seen a vampire (nor did she think much of them) but she had gone along with the story. 

"Hey" Ravenna knocked on the door

"Oh hey" I replied

"So... yesterday, you were looking at me strangely so I just wondered..."

"Why?"

"Yeah"

"It was nothing really. I'm just confused since we both have powers but - "

"You have powers?"

"Unstable ones"

"Unstable?"

"Yeah, I nearly took out someone's eye once with a flying fork and started up a hurricane when Amberley tried to catch me"

"Oh wow. Mine seem dull in comparison"

"Of course not! I just don't know why I have them"

"Well, once we fight these Silver Backs, we can really concentrate on ourselves"

"What do you mean?"

"Concentrate on figuring out these powers and finding your friend"

"You'd help me find Arielle?"

"Of course. I'm your friend now and I wish I'd been able to tell Amberley to back off before but now I can"

"Why? What made you be-"

"So confident? My powers for one. The other reason? I finally have stopped craving their acceptance because I know I'll never get it. And that's ok, because I've finally got the acceptance I need rather than want"

"Is this about Adrian?"

"Well I... I've begun to like him. He's sweet and kind, nothing like I thought. Just goes to show, beauty does not mean goodness"

"I think you're the only one in your family for whom beauty does equal goodness"

"Thanks but I'm really not"

"You are! And once we defeat these Silver Backs like I know we will, we're going to go to these dwarves I met because they can teach us how to control our powers"

"They can?"

"They can."

Ravenna smiled at me before surprising me with a hug.

"I'm glad we go to get to know each other outside of our roles in the castle"

"Me too". 

Ravenna left as Ella smiled after her. Then Christian came in.
