Lola left London the day after Christmas. Things went back to normal then, George's family went back to Liverpool, and George went back to work. As for Lola, she needed to go to Paris to finish planning the New Years Eve party she was hosting. Usually, she'd host along with Nancy, and they'd both invite their friends. But since she wasn't exactly in speaking terms with her old friend, Lola decided to plan a party by herself.

It was exciting, stressful too. However, Lola could handle it. She was a little slower than she'd liked to admit. The morning she left London, she packed her bags. She searched through a drawer, trying to find a missing pair of earrings. Instead, she found an engagement ring with purple gem. Lola promptly put it back in its place, and stopped searching for her earrings.

That night, Lola rang George but he didn't answer. Lola called him again early the next morning, hoping to catch him home before he'd left to work. But again, George didn't pick up. That night, Lola tried again.

George picked up the telephone.

"'Ello."

"George," Lola said. She'd been practicing a speech for the last day, of what she would say. But hearing his voice made Lola tongue-tied. "We need to talk."

"Lols," George said. "Aren't we talking now?"

"George—"

"'You're an idiot'."

"I don't know if its possible for you to arrive early on New Years Eve, but I'd appreciate it if you could. We need to talk."

George said he would, then he proceed to tell Lola about the last couple of days. Lola only listened to half of his stories, then excused herself for bed.

On New Years Eve, George woke up earlier than usual and dragged both Maureen and Ringo out of bed. He made them tea and toast. He threw clothes on their beds to make the process of getting ready quicker. Forty minutes later, George let out a sigh when they were all on a train to Paris. He was sitting next to Maureen, Ringo was across from them.

George tilted his head, looking over Maureen's shoulder to see out the window. Maureen fell asleep quickly, and her head bobbed forward and back, before it settled comfortably on George's shoulder. He was starting to get hungry, and wanted to get something to eat. He waited for Maureen to wake up, until all of the waiting and sitting made him fall asleep from boredom.

When they arrived in Paris, they got a cab to get some lunch. Ringo took something out of his coat pocket, it looked a lot like a biscuit, and George was interested.

"A biscuit."

He handed George the biscuit without a word, and unrolled two more from a napkin. George gobbled it down quickly. "George!" Ringo laughed. "You shouldn't have eaten that so quickly!"

"Why?" George looked at what remained of the biscuit, crumbs.

"It was a grass biscuit," Ringo said.

"I baked it," Maureen said.

"Oh well," George replied. He needed to go to Lola's place soon and speak to her. It'd sounded important. But she could probably wait couldn't she? She could wait a couple of hours, until the effects wore off. "Thanks Maur."

Lola greeted the guests that came to her party. She thanked them for coming, kissed their cheeks, and handed them some champagne. She watched the door carefully, and waited for George to arrive. Hours passed, and George didn't appear. Lola did her best not to worry about him, but at the back of her mind she wondered if he was okay.
