Chapter 5

Natalie's POV

It was happening all over again. I was standing face to face with the devil. Though he might be handsome, that didn't mean that he was nice and gentle. Instead, he was rough and violent.

Everything resorted to violence with him even if he wasn't drunk forty five percent of the time. And fighting back was crucial.

Standing at almost the same height as Aiden, he towered over me with an imperious look upon his face. The same light brown eyes that Raigh-lee inherited, stared down at me almost darkly as he raked his hands through the tangles of his dark brown hair. I watched his every movement carefully, frightened by what he might do to me again. As he stretched his hand out towards my face, I flinched away while he continued to reach out towards me. To my utter surprise, he caressed my cheek gently before quickly wrapping his hands around my neck.

"Running away from me is futile, my love." He stated with a dark look upon his face while tightening his grip around my neck.

"Natalie!" A familiar voice shouted as I felt myself begin to fall into a black abyss. "Wake up!" He shouted again as I shot upright, headbutting a certain tall individual as he fell back onto the carpet, holding his head. Quickly looking around with uncertain eyes, realization finally hit me as I saw Aiden on the floor holding his head while Raigh-lee pulled on the sleeve of my shirt.  "Are you okay?!" He questioned while quickly getting to his feet as I slowly looked from him to Raigh-lee before picking her up and hugging her to my chest.

"I love you so much." I whispered to my baby as a few tears slipped down my face. I hated when I had nightmares about him because they always left me feeling helpless and afraid like those times when I was with him. "I'm so sorry that I can't protect you." I sobbed while trying not to hurt my baby as she whimpered quietly.

"But you are protecting her, Natalie. From what Lucy's been telling me, you protect her better than you do yourself. That's both a good thing and a bad thing. Good, because you're her mother and bad, because you can't protect somebody else when you can't protect yourself. That's the rule. You have to learn how to protect yourself first before protecting others." Aiden stated firmly while rubbing circles on my back as I sighed into the curls of my baby's hair as she fisted my shirt between her little fists.

"Ma Ma sad." She whispered while looking up at me with glossy eyes. "No, Ma Ma." She added as her bottom lip quivered before she started crying as I couldn't stand the sight of my baby being sad. It broke my heart.
