Dan and I were eventually able to visit Phil. He was still unconscious and we noticed a bandage around the side and back of his head, where he had been hit.

"H-How long do you think he'll be out?" Dan asked the doctor, who was in the room examining him.
"Well, we just gave him some anesthesia so we could put stitches on his head, so he should be out for another hour or two." The Doctor responded.
"Thank you." I told him.

He nodded before grabbing a clipboard and heading out of the room.

Dan and I sat in silence for a moment before he spoke up again.

"I want to apologize to you, Emma... and thank you." Dan began. "I want to apologize for arguing with you earlier, and thank you for coming with us."
"You don't need to apologize, Dan, I know you were concerned about Phil." I assured him. "I was too."
"I just should've trusted you from the very beginning." Dan continued. "I should've just worried about getting Phil help, not worrying about some damn hospital in the town."
"Well, it's the doctors job here to take care of patients, no matter who they are." I responded.
"I know, but it still wouldn't surprise me if they hate us internally." Dan claimed.
"They probably can't hold grudges, Dan, that would get them fired." I insisted.
"Well, this town is a whole shitstorm of messed up compared to every other place in the universe." Dan explained. "Rules aren't followed and people don't care about anything."
"Yeah, I've realized that." I agreed.

As we were both silent for a moment, my mind suddenly flashed back to the moment I followed them to the door that lead up to the rooftop.

"Um..." I began. "I kinda, saw you guys sneaking up to the rooftop about a week or two ago..."
"Really?" Dan asked.
I nodded. "What were you two doing up there?"
Dan sighed, "it's the one place me and Phil go to where we actually feel safe to be ourselves." He explained. "We literally just sit up there, goof around, and... sometimes cuddle with one another."
"Have you ever gotten caught?" I asked.
"We make sure we go during the times the maintenance workers aren't there, so no we haven't." Dan answered.
"But technically, you still get caught because you're skipping classes, don't you?" I asked.
"No, actually." Dan responded. "We have study hall, but everybody ditches that and does their own thing."
"So you don't skip classes like everybody says you do?" I asked.
"Only on rare occasions." Dan nodded. "Other than that, we only convince people that we skip classes when in reality, we don't skip any at all, if that makes sense."
"And they all just fell for it and didn't even question or investigate it?" I asked.

Dan nodded, and I began to laugh at how incredibly gullible everybody at our school really is. Me, Dan and Phil are the real sane ones in this situation.

"So, you're both really good students otherwise?" I asked.
"We get As and Bs." Dan responded. "But because of our reputation we've been given, we've never really been invited to any of the breakfasts that are held for the honor roll and principal's list students. They literally have to mail our certificates so nobody knows that we pass our classes."
"Wow..." I simply responded.
"Yeah, tell me about it." Dan responded.

Later on, as the two of us were sitting there waiting for Phil, he had finally woken up. I watched Dan as his smile had grown big.

"Phil, can you hear me?" Dan asked.
"Dan." Phil moaned.

As he slowly lifted his head, he groaned in pain before laying back again.

"Hey, hey, don't lift your head." Dan said in a worried, yet demanding tone. "They told you to keep laying back."

Phil laid his head back on the bed.

"How long is the pain supposed to last?" Phil asked.
"Only for one, maybe two days." Dan responded. "And you can't really wash your hair until the bandages and stitches come off."
"How long will that be for?" Phil asked.
"For three, maybe four days." Dan responded.

Phil was silent for a moment before he slowly turned his head and saw me.

"She's here?" Phil asked.
"Yeah." Dan nodded. "She saw what happened and helped out."

Phil looked over at me and smiled.

"Thank you." He said.
"You're welcome." I nodded.

He then looked back at Dan. Dan then reached over and grabbed his hand.

"Phil, I'm so sorry." Dan whispered. "I should've gotten the hit."
"No, no you shouldn't have." Phil responded.
"Neither of you should have." I butted in.

They both looked at me, somewhat sternly, but then their faces relaxed a bit and they gave each other an assuring look, as if I was right.

"Phil, I-I told her everything." Dan said. "About our relationship, about the club, about our past, everything."
"Why the hell would you do that?" Phil asked.
"She's the one person who we can trust." Dan said.

They both looked at me once more.

"Your secrets are safe with me, I promise..." I assured them.

Dan and Phil smirked a smile and nodded.

I then decided to take a quick break and call my parents to let them know what was going on.

"Emma, what are you doing?" My mom asked as soon as she answered the phone.
"Mom, everything's fine, I'm at the hospital with Dan and Phil." I responded.
"What?" Mom asked. "Avery told me that you were at their house!"
"What?" I asked confused. "I told her to tell you guys I was at the hospital! Phil got hurt and I helped him over to the hospital!"
"How come she told us something different?" Mom asked.
"Because she believes the people I helped out are troublemakers when I know they're not." I explained. "She and many other people believe that when they're just being overdramatic."
"Alright, we'll talk about it when we get home." She stated. "Just send pictures to prove you are in fact at a hospital?"

I rolled my eyes. She did this to me all the time when I lived in the city to make sure I was telling the truth, but I said yes before hanging up and started to take pictures of the hallways, the rooms, and of Dan and Phil, who were awkwardly making poses before I sent the pictures to my mom, who then responded.

Thx, idk why Avery lied.

To which I responded.

It's a long story, see you soon.
