As Dan was rushed into the emergency room, Phil and I were told to wait out in the waiting room area, just like when Phil was rushed to the hospital. This time, we were more on edge. We didn't know what was going on with Dan, but what we did know was that it had to be from this curse everybody at school is doing to us. From what Phil had told me over the phone, it just happened out of nowhere. Dan wasn't sick or anything, he was perfectly fine before this happened.
I looked over at Phil, who had a worried look on his face, almost like puppy dog eyes.
"Phil, it's going to be alright." I assured him. "Maybe this is just appendicitis or something and we're just overreacting thinking it was the curse."
"I doubt it." Phil mumbled. "He wouldn't have been as bad if it was."
"You never know." I responded.
My parents then came inside after parking the car in the emergency parking lot area.
"How is he?" Dad asked.
"We're not sure, they just took him in." I answered. "We have to wait out here."
My mom looked at Phil, "are you alright?"
Phil shrugged, "I'm just nervous and scared."
"It'll be fine, Phil..." My mom assured him. "My daughter and my husband both had emergency moments in their lives that completely worried me, but it all turned out fine in the end."
We waited about an hour when a doctor finally came out of the Emergency Room area.
"Are you four with Daniel Howell?" The doctor asked.
We all nodded. Suddenly, the doctor sighed, which made my heart race.
"Well, he's got very severe internal bleeding." The doctor explained. "The best we can do for him it seems is to have a monitoring system with him that will keep him from internally bleeding. We also need to prescribe him some antibiotics which he needs to take twice a day. If he forgets, that could severely impact him, maybe even kill him."
My eyes widened and I looked over at Phil, who was looking down, holding back tears.
"But I don't get it, he never severely injured himself to have caused that sort of thing." I claimed.
"Well, it doesn't have to be an injury, maybe an organ exploded. But, that wasn't the case either. So whatever may have caused it is unknown to us."
"You were only in there an hour testing on him." Dad stated. "Don't you think you need to do farther research?"
"We did all the tests that we could and nothing can be explained on why he's bleeding so much internally and where." The doctor explained in a more firm and serious voice. "All we can do is have the monitoring system on him 24/7 and give him antibiotics."
"W-Will he ever be the same again?" Phil asked, choking with emotion.
"I'm afraid any physical activity such as riding backs and even walking to an extent is not allowed." The doctor explained. "He must be kept indoors, must be relaxed and must be well hydrated at all costs."
Phil didn't say anything, he didn't even nod saying he understood. He was still comprehending the fact that now things will change for the worst. Dan won't be allowed to go to school anymore with him and Phil has to care for him the entire time, otherwise he will possibly die.
"Well... thank you, doctor..." My mom said.
The doctor nodded and went back into the room.
I looked over at Phil.
"Phil, I'm going to help you get through this." I assured him. "You're not going to be alone in this."
Phil didn't say anything, he only embraced me.
"Thank you..." He whispered. "For everything."
I hugged him back, "I'll always be here for you..."
Phil decided to finally go in and see Dan. As he walked past the Emergency Room entrance, I looked over at my parents.
"How am I going to tell him now?" I asked. "He needs me..."
"We'll see what happens." Dad responded. "Until then, don't even worry about telling him that we're moving, just focus on having Dan recover and having Phil's back."
I silently nodded before making my way through the Emergency Room entrance. I quickly went through each room, looking for Dan's room since I didn't even bother asking what room he was in.
Finally, I saw Phil through the window of a room. I slowly opened the door and entered the room. Noticing Dan conscious, but looking very pale and weak. Dan looked over at me and smiled.
"Hey..." Dan said with a raspy voice.
"Hi Dan." I responded. "How are you feeling?"
"Like Satan just exploded my entire body..." He answered.
I smiled. He still kept his sense of humor. Honestly, he's going to need it.
Dan then looked over at Phil, "Am I seriously going to need this thing on my body?" Dan asked.
"Yes, you're going to need it if you want to survive." Phil nodded.
"But what if I don't want to?" Dan asked.
"Phil immediately grew serious. "Dan! Don't you dare say that!"
My face grew surprised. I never heard Phil talk like that before. His voice was usually happy and sweet. Seeing his serious and somewhat angry side really made me feel quite scared.
"Don't worry Phil..." Dan responded. "I'm not going anywhere..."
"Good." Phil responded.
"We're going to help you, Dan." I told him. "So everything is going to be alright."
"Thank you..." He said.
Just then, the door opened and my mom peered her head through the door. She waved me over to her. I quickly went out into the hallway.
"We need to get going, visiting hours are almost up." My mom said.
"What about Phil?" I asked.
"They told me he's allowed to stay for the night." Mom said.
I nodded, looking over through the window at Dan and Phil, who were both holding hands.
I then made my way back into the room.
"Guys, I have to go." I told them. "Visiting hours are almost over."
"Okay." Phil nodded. "Thank you for the help today, I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't responded."
I decided to go over to him and hug them both. They both needed it at this point.
I then made my way out of the room and out of the hospital with my mom and dad.
