"keith!" lance cried as keith disappeared over the side of the bridge, a splash sounding as he hit the water. lance ran up to the side of the bridge and stared at the bubbles that popped up, his heart racing in his chest. he didn't know what to do.

he dove in after keith, swimming down as far as he could go and feeling around in the cold water, searching for anything that felt like a human. the water was dark and cold, and lance knew if he didn't get keith out of there soon, it would all be over.

he rose to the top and took a deep breath in, before pushing himself back under the water, desperately trying to reach the bottom in case keith was already down there. his muscles and lungs were aching, but he wouldn't stop unless he found keith, or died trying. he surfaced again and had to inhale several time to soothe the pain in his lungs. he searched around desperately for a sign, any sign, that could give him a clue as to where keith was.

out of the corner of his eye, bubbles surfaced. lance didn't hesitate to swim over to the exact spot and dive down. his head and ears began to hurt as the pressure increased, but he didn't stop. he continued swimming, focusing on only one thing: finding keith and getting him out.

lance felt something brush passed his fingers. he quickly grabbed it and yanked upwards. it was incredibly heavy, and lance decided it had to be keith.

lance propelled himself upward as best as he could with keith weighing him down, but it was too slow of a process. he needed air soon and his muscles were about to start locking up on him. he pushed as hard as he could, telling himself he was going to make it. he had to, for keith.

he broke the surface and gasped in air, coughing as the cold stung his throat, before he pulled keith to the surface, noticing his lips were blue and his skin was paler than normal. lance turned to see the shore was too far away for him to make it in time. it was just too cold and lance could feel his bones locking up and his muscles freezing already.

no, you have to push through it. for keith. you have to get him to safety.

a sound left keith's mouth, it was a soft cough. lance, fueled by adrenaline, pushed his muscles to move, moving him slowly but surely to the shore. hope rose in lance as he touched the bottom, meaning the shore was not too far. he forced himself onto the shore, pulling keith up onto it as well.

he felt like giving up, like resting right there was the best he could do, but he shook his head and looked at keith. he had to continue, or else keith would die. he had no room to stop.

"sir! sir! are you alright?" a voice blurred into focus. "lance?!"

"call 911," lance croaked out, looking up at the bridge, where an unidentifiable person stood. he looked back down to keith. "please be okay."
