the ambulance ride was hectic and full of two nurses barking orders to each other back and forth. keith was on the stretcher next to him, a breathing mask on his face. the heart monitor was next to him, but lance didn't have enough strength to lift his eyes to it, and his ears were so fuzzy that he couldn't hear anything. there was a nurse in his face, saying something, but lance couldn't hear. he couldn't even tell what color the nurse's eyes were, his vision blurring in and out of focus.

"keith," lance whispered, and the nurse said something, but that's all lance remembered until his mind faded to black.

---

"good morning," a voice murmured as lance's eyes opened, scanning the stark white room. his head was pounding, causing him to groan and reach a hand up to cradle it. "lance?"

"head hurts," he muttered and peaked up at the person in front of him. it was his mother, her cheeks stained with red tear tracks. alongside her was his father, and his siblings. pidge was in the corner, eyes trained intensely on the heart monitor. his mother pressed a button on the wall, before she reached over and soothed her fingers through lance's hair.

"tell me what happened, lance," his mother whispered softly.

"keith-" he murmured, before realization hit him. "where's keith?!"

  "honey, calm down-"

"where is he?! is he okay?!"

"we don't know, lance," pidge spoke up, sitting in a chair on the opposite side of lance's bed. "he's in intensive care."

a sob escaped lance as his head fell back, closing his eyes. he couldn't help but to cry, tears falling down his cheeks as he let out more sobs, instantly feeling his mother pull him to her chest.

  "i need to see him."

"the doctors said he took a lot of pills and drank with them before he jumped," pidge informed sadly, placing a hand on one of lance's.

"who-who was at the bridge? who found us?"

"shiro. he's outside of keith's room. he said he was driving by when he saw you jump over."

"keith tried to drown himself and i tried to get him out," lance murmured, more tears streaming down his face. pidge was dead silent, amber eyes analyzing lance's face.

the doctor came in and checked lance's vitals, asked how he was, and came back with medicine for lance's headache.

"just rest, okay? you'll feel better tomorrow, i guarantee it."

  "what about keith?"

  "we don't know."
