"lance, please come over," keith choked out.
"what's wrong?" lance instantly asked, throwing his shoes on with no socks and shrugging on a jacket.
"i-i don't trust myself to not do something if i'm alone, please, just-"
"i'm on my way," lance promised, hoping his mom wouldn't notice as he slipped out of his window and made way to his car. "just stay on the line with me, okay?"
"o-okay."
"can you tell me what's going on?" lance questioned softly, starting his car and making the ten minute drive to keith's house.
"m-my foster mom left an hour ago and shiro called and broke up with me and fuck-" keith sobbed into the phone, lance's heart wrenching in his chest. "i just don't think i can be alone right now."
"it's okay, i'm almost there," lance whispered in reassurance, hearing keith suck in a shaky breath.
"i can't breathe," keith muttered, only making lance's anxiety levels rise as he pressed the gas pedal down harder.
"deep breaths, okay?" lance said into the phone. "i'm almost there."
lance pulled into the driveway a minute later, managing to make a ten minute drive into a six minute drive. he quickly got out of his car and opened the door to keith's house, finding it unlocked. he rushed to keith's room and flung the door open. keith was curled up into a ball, sobbing into his knees. lance had never seen him this upset before, and it pained his chest and made a lump rise in his throat.
"hey, keith, i'm here," lance called softly, sitting next to keith on the bed and rubbing his back with his fingertips. "it's okay, you're going to be okay," lance assured him, feeling keith crawl into his lap and hold him tightly, sobbing into his shoulder.
"e-everyone just l-leaves," keith choked out, hiccuping occasionally. "no one wants to stay. first it was my parents. then shiro. i-i only have a few f-friends that don't even t-talk to me that often. w-why doesn't anyone-" he was cut off by a hiccup, "w-want me?"
"keith, don't think like that," lance tried to reassure him, continuing to trace his fingertips up and down keith's back.
"how could i not? the world fucking sucks and everyone just fucking leaves-"
"i won't," lance promised, pulling back to look keith in the eye; cobalt blue meeting deep indigo. "i won't leave you."
