"Olive cast orphanage.. this is the name of the place I grew up in. that’s all what I need to know. I breathed in relief, put the picture back in the box, and started returning everything to its place.
suddenly I heard the sound of glass hitting the floor and shattering……"
My heart started beating in a way I had never felt before that I can almost hear every single beat. I became so afraid that I couldn’t even catch my breath. What happened? Did he wake up? oh my god he’s going to find me here in his room and beat me again. Beat me? No, he’s totally going to kill me this time.
I was frozen in my place, scared to even move a muscle. my hands were shaking in horror as sweat started dropping from my forehead. I stayed in my place for five long minutes before deciding to get out from here and see what happened.
I went to the door and put my hand over the knob, not daring to open it. My heart began racing again, what will happen if I opened the door and saw Jack staring to me with his angry eyes? what will happen if he knew that I’m trying to run away from here? what will happen if he knew that I searched through his things? what if….
I shook the negative thoughts out from my head and tightened my grip over the knob, I have to open the door and see what happened, I can't stay here forever. I took a deep breath, turned the knob slowly before pushing the door open.
My hand was still gripping the knob as my eyes immediately looked at Jack and I let out a sigh of relief, he was still sleeping in the same state I left him in. I looked at the floor below him, there was a shattered glass from the empty beer bottle that he was holding earlier. He must be so drunk because he didn’t wake up to the breaking sound. Thanks god he didn’t, I can’t even imagine what would happen if he opened his eyes and saw me.
I came out from my thoughts and realized that I was getting late to work, I headed to the front door quickly and started walking to the club.
I arrived 10 minutes late. I immediatly went towards my place behind the counter to start working. I saw my best friend, Camila, approaching from the back and walking in my direction. I smiled to her as I took off my jacket and hang it on the clothes hanger behind me.
"Where are you? David was wondering why you were late and-" she started scolding but she stopped mid sentence when she saw my face, "OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR EYE? DID HE DO IT AGAIN?" she yelled in horror
"Is it so obvious? I tried to hide it with make-up but it seems I failed." I said while looking at the pendent mirror behind me. Camila had the right to panic, my eye looked terrible!
"That’s it Lauren, you’ve had enough. Look at your face, he’s a monster! This is too much, you have to do something. You have to stop him before he-" she started complaining but I cut her off
"I’m doing something. That’s why I was late."
"Oh, really? What is it? Tell me what's the plan, I'll help you in whatever you're doing." she said and I chuckled a bit,
"Camz, it's not like I'm trying to kill somebdoy." I joked at her reply.
"Hey, I’m just trying to help over here! But you know what, we can use this murder idea. Let’s kill him and pretend it was an accident." We laughed a little bit before Camila put her serious face up again, "so what are you going to do?"
”I’ll look for my real parents.” I said, avoiding to look in her eyes. I know what she’s going to say.
There was a brief momentt silence before Camila broke it and started talking again,
"Lauren, are you sure? I mean they left you. They didn’t care about you and gave up on you. You don’t even know anything about them. They might be even worse than Jack! "
"I know, Camila. I know." I mumbled, putting my hand on my forehead, "But I can’t stay there Camz, Jack is killing me. I don't have another choice and you know that. I need to be safe, I need a place to be safe at. I know that this sounds crazy but it’s my only hope. I can die at any minute in that house! Look what he did to my yesterday," I said as I lifted my sleeve up a bit to show her my wrist. I regretted it immediately when I saw her reaction
"HOLY SHIT! LAUREN ARE YOU OKAY? DO YOU FEEL DIZZY?OH MY GOD ARE YOU EVEN STILL ALIVE? " her eyes almost popped out of their place while talking.
"No, actually I died but my body wanted to have some fresh air so it came here and now you are talking to…" I scoffed but she cut me off and slapped me slightly on the head, “LAUREN JAUREGUI THIS IS NOT FUNNY!!" she shouted,
"You asked a stupid question so I gave you a stupid answer! "
"Okay okay, how do you feel now? Does it hurt?" she asked in a worried tone.
"Yeah I’m fine, don't worry. The blood stopped and I cleaned the cut so there’s nothing to worry about." I comforted her with a smile. She didn’t believe me though but she dropped it anyway and went back to focuse on the main subject.
"You said you want to find your real parents, as much as I hate this idea but I think it might work. After seeing this I think that even killing him sounds great! I’ll help you in whatever you’re doing."
"Camz, you are the best. I love you so much." I said and hugged her tightly.
"I love you too Lauren, but can you let me now because my bones are crushing and I can’t breath."
"Oh I’m sorry." I chuckled and broke the hug, "Thank you Camz"
"No need to thank me, Lauren. I just want to see you happy and safe. You are the sister that I never had and I can’t see my sister dying without being able to do anything. I’d be more than happy if I could save you from this monster you’re living with."
"You are doing a great help by just standing with me and saying this." Tears started flooding in my eyes as I spoke.Camila hugged me again then wiped the tears that fell from my eyes.
This girl is amazing. I can't imagine how my life would be without her standing by my side. There were times when I’ve lost it all and started thinking about committing suicide, but she was there to stop me from those crazy ideas. She was always comforting me and assuring me that one day I'll be safe. She's always so optimistic and she always sees the bright side in everything, even in the worst things.
I met her here in the club and she was so nice to me at my first days here. We became friends in a short time and now I can't imagine my life without her. She’s the only one who knows about Jack and what he’s doing to me. She’s the only one who I can trust with my life without even thinking. She’s the only one who I can talk to about anything at anytime and know that she'd always listen and understand. She’s my sister, my best friend, my family.. she’s my everything.
She lives here alone in a rented apartment. Her family lives in Cuba and her father can't work due to an injury he suffered from an accident he had 5 years ago. Camila had no other choice but to travel to LA and work to help her family. She couldn't live her life as she was supposed to do but she didn't even complain. She helps her family and sends them money every month. She's a great girl and she desereves a better life. I wish that one day she gets what she truely deserves.
"Okay, enough with the nice words. When we’ll start?" Camila asked, breaking the short silence.
"Today. There is a place we have to visit, the place where everything has started. The place where I’ll find all the answers in."
"What is that place?" She asked again.
"Olive Cast Orphanage" I answered in a deep voice full of emotions.
"Okay, we’ll go there after work. Do you have the address?" she questioned and I nodded, "Don’t worry girl I got your back" she winked to me and I returned it with a smile before we both headed back to our work, serving the drunk coustemers.
I can't wait till our work finishe. I can't wait to see the place that I grew up in, the place where everything has started in.
I can't wait till I have all the answers I'm looking for. I hope everything goes well..
