*Toms Point of view*

I listen to the slow beep of the machine that sits beside me. I focus on the clock opposite my bed. After they fixed my head, I fell asleep. According to the clock I’ve been asleep for just more than an hour. All in all I have 11 stitches around my head. Afew run along just below my hair line and some on the left of my forehead. I feel like I have the worst headache on the planet of the earth. I cant see if anyone stayed with me and I don’t want to move my head.

“Nurse? Nurse.. he’s awake.” Comes Jacks voice. That answers my question. Man, I’m glad to have him as a friend.

A smiley woman comes into view, her hair pinned back in a bun.

“how do you feel?” she asks.

“not the best.” I reply, screwing my nose up.

“I’m just going to do some checks. We want you to stay in over night incase you have concussion but we’ll get you fit and ready to leave tomorrow!”

“thankyou.” I reply, offering her a weak smile.

She comes closer to me and gets a torch out of her apron pocket. She turns it on and shines it in my eyes, it makes my head throb.

“yeah, that’s the problem with light and headaches… don’t go together too well do they?” she says, turning the torch off and grinning.

“they deffiantley don’t.” I reply.

“you aren’t showing any signs of concussion but just to be safe I would still like you to stay in for the night, is that okay?”

“yeah.”

“I’ll give your friend some medication that you can take with some water once you’ve sat upright, okay?”

“okay.” I reply.

I try to push myself up but instead, I feel a sharp pain in my arm.

“fuck.” I say, looking down. The movement of my head makes me wince.

“Mate, I’ll help you.” Comes Jacks voice. My vision is black on the edges.

I feel his  hands under my armpits and he pulls me upwards. Again, I feel the pain in my arm. I rest my head on the backboard and let out a sigh.

“did I hurt my arm too?” I say, frowning. No one said anything about my arm earlier.

“no man, that’s your drip. Because you had alchahol in your system, they had to flush it out.”

“huh? I hardly drank.”

“yeah, but even a tiny bit of alchahol can have a terrible effect when its mixed with medicine, they just needed to put more liquids into you.”

“you sound like a scientist.” I reply, managing  a small laugh.

He laughs back and then reaches behind him. He hands me a glass of water and a couple of tablets.

“take these and then you should probably get some sleep.” I smile and take the tablets from him, put them into my mouth. He hands me the glass and I swallow the pills down with the water.

“do you need some help to lie down mate?”

“please, yeah that would be good,” I say, passing him the glass back.

He helps me down and I press my head into the pillow.

“Tom? Tom…” my head feels heavy. One of those pills must have been to help me sleep.
