*Saras POV*
“I watch as Harry slams the door and turn back to Tom.
He’s holding his hands up as if in mercy, like he’s scared of what I’ll do.
“It’s okay.” I say.
“I’m still sorry. I’m just so used to talking about her with my family, her names still kind of fresh in her memory.”
“Just tell me one thing, Tom.”
He looks at me patiently.
“why did you think it was okay to cheat on your exes?”
He lets out a sigh and rubs his face.
“I was stupid. I wasn’t thinking. I was too naïve and I thought I was in love so I just let them go.”
“how do I know you wont do that to me?”
“you are just going to have to trust me. Can you do that?”
“yes, I guess I can. But first I need to know if there is anything you are holding back from telling me.”
He closes his eyes for a moment as if to think. Then he opens them and frowns. “I don’t want to scare you.” He says, leaning on his arm.
“just tell me.”
“You remember Bryan?”
“how could I forget?” I reply, letting out a slight laugh.
“the reason this happened to me…” he says, pointing to his still slightly blue eye from where Bryan hit him. His face is a lot of funny colours. His forehead is a browny-red from the most recent injury that happened at the party and the mark next to his eye seems to change colour everyday.
“sara?” he says, snapping me out of the trance.
“the reason Bryan hit me was because number one- he was threatening Harry and Sam so I took him down but there is also another reason…” He lets out a sigh.
“He was threatening them and my family unless we would let him do… do stuff with you.”
It feels as if I’ve just been punched in the stomach.
“What stuff?”
“he just said he wanted… alone time with you. It made me feel sick. The way he looked when he talked about you. Ofcourse Harry and Sam said that they wouldn’t let him be alone with you so he was going to beat them up with… with a baseball bat.” His body shudders as he speaks, I reach out and put my hand on his shoulder. “ I found them when he was about to… to hit them and I lost my temper and beat him up.”
“and this guy? Have you spoken to him since? How does he even know about me?” I ask, fear overcoming me.
“No, I’d never even seen him before it. He’s the year above Harry and Sam and he saw you come over a couple of times.”
I thought I was safe moving away but obviously not. I’m not safe anywhere I go. Wherever I end up, I bring danger. I am the reason Harry and Sam nearly got beaten up. They stood up for me. I am the reason Tom did get beaten up. I’m the reason Paddy was left home alone and was terrified. The trauma of the whole day was my fault. I cradle my head into my hands and feel my body begin to shake. I feel his hand rub across my back. “I’m unsafe.” I say.
He speaks but I don’t hear his words.
“I need to leave. I’ve put you in danger. I’m not safe.” I cry, tears falling down my cheeks.
