JUSTIN'S POV
"FUCK!" I yelled in utter pain as I studied my sore and bruised eye through the rear view mirror of my car. "I better get some fucking answers today." I muttered to myself as I took a hold of my sunglasses, placing them over my eyes. I grabbed my backpack and got out of my car before I roughly slammed the car door shut, making bystanders turn to look at me.
I breathed in deeply and let out an exhausted sigh, before slowly making my way up the school entrance. Through the dark shades of my sunglasses, my eyes veered from side to side of the hallway. Glares and stares quickly made my way. Heads shot up from their phones making known of my presence. Soon enough, whispers started to rise, causing my temper to rise along. Everywhere I looked, eyes were all on me, almost as if watching every move I made. I clenched my jaw. I tried to shake it off, but it was almost as if I could feel their eyes on me. Obviously, everyone knew what happened Friday night. Everyone but me.
*Flashback*
I slowly took my first breath of the new fresh air conditioning that surrounded me in this new morning. My heart was beating so rapidly and hard, it was the only noise my ears could reach. I started to sit up when suddenly, a sharp pain overcame in my head. I grimaced in pain, holding a tight grip of the bed sheets. I quickly moved my hands and covered my face as the pain started to fade off a bit. I completely and slowly sat up looking around as my vision started to clear out. I was back at my house. I looked down, and found I was still wearing my clothes from the party last night. I cringed in confusion. My eyes were heavy, my mouth was dry, and every inch and muscle of my body was aching.
I ran my hand through my morning hair, and closed my eyes to think. Think about last night. The last thing I remembered, was talking to Barbara and Caelyn. I thought harder trying to ignore the pounding of my head. Everything was blurry, but I could still hear chants and screams. I then made out Jason's face through my memories. I saw his balled fist come suddenly and quickly at me before everything went black.
I opened my eyes back up and walked over to the bathroom that was connected to the room. I turned on the light and looked into the mirror, to find half of the source from my pain. My eye was completely surrounded by a dark purple and brown bruise. I reached my hand over to my eye. "AGH." I yelled in pain quickly taking my hand off.
I leaned my hands against the bathroom counter, keeping myself standing, as I closed my eyes once more. I thought hard about last night. I couldn't think of anything. I tightened my eyes and pushed my brain to remember. Suddenly I saw someone's hands clawing at my bare back, as they pushed themselves towards me. We were kissing. Their hands glided up to my head deepening the kiss. Once again, the memory started to fade.
"What the fuck?" I murmured to myself, opening my eyes back up. I looked at myself in confusion through the mirror.
*End of Flashback*
I ran my hand through my hair and face in exhaustion. The past few days, I had barely gotten sleep, and the nonstop headache wasn't help either. That Saturday morning, I had decided to stay home for the rest of the weekend. I wanted to be alone to clear my head, and try to go back to my normal carefree life. Before Selena came into it. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have gone to that party and I wouldn't have gotten punched. But then again, why did I care so much and decide to go? This question haunted me throughout the whole weekend. I also, couldn't help but wonder what happened with her and Jason.
I walked up to my locker and opened it when I heard a familiar and whiny voice.
"Justyyy!"
I turned around and prepared myself to run away.
"Justy stop! Where are you going!" Caitlyn called out, making me stop at my tracks.
"What do you want Caitlyn." I rolled my eyes.
"Well geez Mr.Grumpy pants! I just wanted to know how you were since the party because-"
"You went to the party?" I questioned her.
"Well yeah-"
Before she could talk any longer, I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her around the corner. We quickly walked over behind one of the walls.
"Oh Justin!" Caitlyn giggled. "I don't remember you being so rough but-"
"What?" I cringed. "No! What happened at the party!" I said alarmed.
"Well-"
"No actually, what happened to my eye?" I rambled on with my questions.
"Watch for yourself." She said holding up her phone.
I snatched the phone away from her and pressed play on the video in front of me. Once it loaded, I squinted my eyes, trying to make out the scene. The camera moved all around without keeping still. Person after person kept blocking the view from the phone, making my patience run low. Finally, the person filming, moved places and I had a front row view to what had actually happened.
I was standing up, slightly rocking side to side, trying to maintain balance. Obviously due to my over drinking. Across from me, Jason. The chantings from my memories came alive through the video. I was looking at my hand when all of a sudden, Jason came at me, with a full-force punch.
"OOO!" The crowd yelled, as they watched me harshly land on the floor unconscious. I formed my hand into a tight fist. I was embarrassed and angry. The video made me look weak and fragile.
"How did you get this." I said with no certain emotion in my voice.
"Everyone has this video. It's being shared all over the school... It's pretty much what everyone's been talking about."
Loosing control, I quickly handed the phone back to Caitlin and walked back into the hall. Back into the room full of judgement and stares.
I then stopped walking and stood in the middle of the hall, just watching while everyone waited for me speak. "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?" I yelled in frustration down the hallway. Some jumped at my sudden reaction. "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR HUH?" I raised my voice even more, to speechless classmates.
I grabbed onto my shades and slid them right off my face, exposing my black eye. I heard faint gasps as everyone recognized my eye. "THIS? IS THIS WHAT YOU'RE WAITING FOR?!" I continued.
Then a few lockers down, I heard laughing. My head immediately turned towards the noise along with my legs. I walked rapidly towards the noise. It was a kid. He seemed skinnier and shorter with me. Probably a freshman.
"What's so funny huh!?" I questioned him. I took his phone and looked at it, to find the video of me. "oh." I let out a sarcastic but light chuckle, ready to explode. "You think this is funny?" I said.
He stood there frozen.
"YOU THINK THIS IS FUCKING HILARIOUS?" I yelled at him, taking a grip of the front of his shirt, then pulling him towards me.
"N-No n-not at a-all!" His voice trembled in fear.
"OBVIOUSLY YOU DID." I yelled into his fearful face, as he cringed and threw his head back dodging my yells. Letting my emotions get the best of me, I threw his phone down the school hallway. It hit the floor in a smash and slid across the floor only to be stopped by a wall.
"WHAT THE FUCK MAN!" He yelled struggling to let go of my grip to go check on his phone.
"Not so funny now huh? Keep laughing and you'll regret it." I said letting go of his shirt, & pushing him away from me.
"JUSTIN DREW BIEBER. PRINCIPLES OFFICE. NOW." I overheard an administrator from behind. I groaned and hung my head low, not moving an inch.
"I'm not repeating myself Mr.Bieber." They said firmly.
"ALRIGHT." I raised my voice. "I'm coming."
I turned around placing my sunglasses back on and followed them to 'Student Services', as I heard the bell for the first class ring. Everyone started clearing out the hallway, and passed by me. Their looks distracted me almost as if blocking my path.
The administrator opened the front door for me, and as I walked in, Mrs. Kaye's head popped right up from her office.
"Wait here. I'm going to see when Mr. Meyers can see you."
"Yeah yeah yeah. I know the whole process." I rolled my eyes, as the administrator made their way through the building and towards the back, to the principle's office.
"Justin what happened?" Mrs. Kaye asked concerned, making her way to me.
"I threw this kid's phone down the hallway and threatened him." I muttered looking down at my lap.
"Why?"
I sighed. I knew I could trust Allison."Well," I took my shades off making her gasp at my eye. "I got punched at a party this weekend and the video is going around. It's embarrassing as fuck! Now I'm the big laugh of the school!" I dug my head into the palms of my cupped hands.
"Oh Justin." She sighed placing her hand on my back as comfort. "Everything will be fine."
"How do you know?!" I spat at her.
"Because you can't always be on top Justin. Sometimes, life knocks you down, only to help you get back up stronger than before."
"I guess that's true..." I realized, taking in her advice. "I've just never been humiliated. It isn't something that happens to me! I wouldn't even have gone to that stupid party if it weren't for-"I stopped in between words shaking my head.
"For?" Allison said raising her eyebrows.
"Her." I spoke lowly.
"Justin, you seem like you really like this gi-"
"NO!" I yelled at her before she finished her question.
"Then why did you go for her?"
"I didn't!"
"You just admitted you did!"
"UGH!" I rubbed my eyes in frustration.
"Why don't you just say you like the girl?" She asked.
"Because I don't like her. That would mean I'm falling for her and that's weak. I'm not whipped."
"Justin, falling for someone doesn't mean you're weak or 'whipped'." She chuckled. "It just means you've found someone that makes you brave enough to take down all your walls to let them in. Than once you get them, you're not weak at all, with them, but fearless and confident because as long they're by your side, it feels like nothing can get you down." Her words sent me into a trance of thoughts. I sat there quietly taking in everything she had just said.
"Well. That's sucks because I don't like her." I sat up straight, neglecting every possible feeling I might have for Selena.
Allison looked at me speechless. "Justin-"
"Listen Mrs. Kaye, I know you want me to like this girl, but you know me! That's not my thing. People aren't really made to 'fall for each other'. That whole idea is honestly messy and ridiculous." I spoke, then turned my head to look at Allison, who had a disappointed look on her face. I ignored her expression. "Thank you for your advice though!" I smiled at her.
She managed to pull of a faint smile.
"Mr.Bieber? The principle will now see you." The administrator came back out, disrupting me and Allison's conversation.
"I really hope you do the right thing." Allison quietly said while patting my back. She stood up and made her way back to her office. I sighed and threw my backpack over my shoulder. I stood up and slowly walked towards the principles office.
I turned the corner and spotted Mr.Meyers sitting down in front of his desk. He was on his computer, when I walked in.
"Morning David!" I greeted him sitting down on one of the comfy chairs in front of him.
"Justin you know you can't call me that."
"You think that! But you see, I've been in this seat so much, I think we could be on first name bases." I smirked.
"Justin. I am your principle and you're the student. It's Mr. Meyers to YOU." He raised his voice at me. "Now. Don't think you can come in here, all relaxed as if nothing happened. The first class bell had not even been rung and you were already threatening a freshman!"
"I know it looks bad but-"
"BUT NOTHING MR.BIEBER!" He yelled at me. I clenched my jaw. He went to his computer and his eyes quickly moved, as he clicked on his mouse and typed a few things on his keyboard. He then turned the computer screen to face me. It was my record.
"You've been found numerous times in school grounds, with possession of marijuana and alcohol. The number of times you've skipped classes just this year, is larger than you're own age! AND You've been included in numerous fights with fellow classmates, and have been found being more than affectionate with the female students-"
"Hey! A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do." I smirked leaning back in my chair.
"Yes Mr. Bieber. But you see. You're not a man. You're a boy. Life isn't a game Justin. You grow up at some point." His stern and harsh words hit me like a second punch on my face. Who was he to judge? He doesn't even fucking know me. I sat there quietly trying to hold myself back.
"I have no other choice but to expel you, once and for all." He spoke firmly, making me rise on my feet.
"NO!" I yelled stopping him. "YOU CANT! You know my mom wants me to succeed more than anything.... I'm all she has." I said with a painful look on my face. I thought about my mom. How much she took care of me and how much she didn't want me to turn out like my dad. She's the only person I didn't ever want to disappoint. Even though, the fact that I almost never got to see her, disappointed me.
Mr. Meyers let out a big breath and sat quietly in his chair thinking. "One more chance Justin-"
"YES!"
"BUT- this is your last one. By school regulations though, you'll be suspended for the rest of the week." Mr.Meyers sighed.
"Fine I'll take that. Don't worry by the time I get back I won't let you down!" I flashed a smile at him.
He looked at me for a while before speaking. "You know Justin, when I was you're age..." Mr. Meyers started rambling on as I sat there and started to doze off in my thoughts.
'I hope you do the right thing Justin.', Mrs.Kaye's words repeated themselves in my head. 'What did she mean by that?' I thought to myself. I haven't done anything wrong or out of the usual. It's me, the typical Justin. Why is she surprised?
Was I supposed to sit there and say I liked Selena when I didn't? Because I don't. I mean there ARE things I like about her. Like her sweet smile. Everytime she flashed those perfectly white teeth, it gave me a sense of calmness. I liked her eyes. Her big beautiful brown eyes. They made everything feel right. I liked her laugh. Even her loud laugh, made me smile. A genuine smile. I liked how bold she was. She wasn't afraid to do what she wanted. She was confident but yet so down to earth. I like how she just stands out in a crowd of people. To me, the spotlight always shined on her. She was just so different. I liked how different she was.
"I like her."
"Excuse me?" Mr. Meyers said making me look at him.
"Shit what." I widened my eyes realizing I had just said that outloud. I had to react quick. I quickly rose to my feet. "You know what, I'm loving that story! I really am, but I gotta go!" I said grabbing my backpack. "Maybe you can finish that story maybe over lunch or something. Aight David? Aight bye!" I said rushing out of the room.
I ran over to Mrs. Kaye who was now back to her usual secretary seat at the front of the office. "I like her. I admit it. She's beautiful!" I practically yelled at Mrs. Kaye through the glass window. After Mrs. Kaye gave me a smile of approval, I ran out of the office and into the hallway.
I frantically walked up the hall, and looked around. I didn't even know what I was doing. I mean, I just found out I liked Selena. This isn't my typical day to day news.
"YO Justin!" Ryan called from across the hall.
"Ryan! As usual no first period." I smiled as he came to do our handshake.
"You already know! What's up man! I'm glad you're doing better!" He smiled. "That eye though." He cringed at the sight of my black eye.
"Oh yeah." I shrugged. "It's whatever. Atleast I actually know how it happened."
"Did you see-"
"The video? Yeah." I interrupted Ryan, already knowing what he was about to say.
"Yeah.. Man, I'm sorry about that. How'd you take it?"
"Well," I let out a sigh. "Considering I'm now suspended for the rest of the week, not so well." I chuckled.
"Shit man. What'd you do now?" Ryan asked.
"This fucking freshman, couldn't keep his mouth shut, and laughed at me what, like 3 fucking feet away. So I sorta threw the kid's phone down the hall." I complained.
"Oh god." Ryan sat against one if the walls in the hallway. "Poor kid."
"Psh. No!" I sat beside Ryan. "Okay maybe I could've reacted calmer.. But he should've know better."
Ryan slowly shook his head looking straight ahead.
"Do you- Do you remember anything from the party?" I asked Ryan.
"Yeah why?"
"Why did Jason punch me?"
"I wasn't there for the whole thing. But, I know the fight was about Selena." Ryan said. "You threw the first punch but missed."
"Shit. I must've been so drunk."
"Obviously." He chuckled.
"What happened after the punch?"
"After you were lying in the floor, unconscious, some of the guys and I, carried and helped you upstairs. We got you into the first room we found and laid you on the bed."
"Mhmmm.." I said, indicating for Ryan to talk further.
"Then Selena came in-"
"Selena came in?!" I jumped at his words.
"Yeah, she came to see if you were okay. Then we left you guys alone."
My mind started racing. My memory of the hands that were clawing on my back were her! We kissed! It was me and her!
"Bro, no fucking way." I said in disbelief. "Selena and I hooked up!"
"Yeah but-"
"Shit, this whole 'liking a girl' thing is pretty damn easy." I said giving myself props.
"Justin- Wait- what." He seemed taken back.
"I like her. A lot. I know I sound so gay right now, but- ugh I don't know!"
"Justin, did that punch effect your brain?" Ryan chuckled.
"Man shut up." I chuckled back. "I'm serious."
Ryan stood there quietly, studying me. "This is fucking crazy, I hope you know."
"Shut up bro." I laughed.
Ryan's facial expression then quickly turned into a frown. "Justin, you see, after we left-"
At that very moment, the classroom change bell rang. I quickly stood up. "I'm gonna talk to her man." I smiled.
"Justin-"
"Man, I'm too anxious right now. I need to talk her." I said turning around to watch as the floods of students crowded into the hallway. Ryan kept calling after me, but I ignored his calls. I leaned up, down, right, and left, looking for Selena. Finally, she came right out. She was walking behind Taylor. Her head midway down.
I ran my hands from my hair and smiled. "Sel!!" I yelled making Selena turn sideways. But, Taylor turned the whole way.
"Don't fucking come anywhere near us." Taylor spat me, startling me.
"What?" I asked puzzled.
"I'm telling you to stay away. Don't talk to Selena ever again." Taylor firmly said to me as she stood in front of Selena. Everything in my mind went blank. I had no clue what was going on.
"Sel?" I looked over at Selena as she stood there quietly. Slowly she turned to face me. I was taken back when I saw her.
Her red eyes, matched her nose, as I could spot some dried up tears. She looked tired, almost as if she'd been restless these past few days. The sadness in her eyes made my stomach drop.
