Three months later

Things had been going smoothly between him and Sierra, they had discussed baby names and even started shopping for the baby. The thought of Sierra warmed his heart and he couldn't wait to see her later today. He had planned a nice lunch at his house and he wanted to show her the nursery he had been working on the past few months.

Gerard had just finished his training with Barcelona and was laughing with his teammates in the locker rooms whe his phone rang.

His teammates continued with their various conversations.
"Yes?" He asked the person on the other end of the phone.

"Mr Piquè? This is Sierra Collin's midwife.  She asked me to let you know the baby is coming"
"But it's early... " he protested feeling his chest tighten they had at least a good 6weeks before the baby was due.
Upon hearing the distress in their teammate's  voice the locker room went quiet at once.
"Yes, we had to induce labour... It's an emergency cesarean"

"Which hospital?" He demanded

"I was just told to let you know..."
Gerard felt annoyed that the woman wasn't answering his question.
"Barcelona Memorial hospital" the woman replied

"Tell her I'm on the way" he said before hanging up.

"What's going on?" Lionel Messi asked his friend who looked distressed

"Sierra is having the baby now" Gerard ran a hand through his hair trying to gather his thoughts.
"I thought you said she wasn't due for another six weeks?" Andres Inesta questioned

"Apparently it's an emergency c-section.I have to get to the hospital now!" He reached for his bag

"I'll take you" Leo told his friend giving him a reassuring smile.

"Let's go" Gerard muttered feeling grateful his friend was there for support.

An older woman met them in the hospital reception area. Her grey hair was pulled into a tight bun and she wore blue scrubs
"Hola Mr Piquè , I'm Leona we spoke on the phone" she extended her hand which Gerard shook.
"Hola , this is my friend Leo"
The two shook hands and exchanged greetings

"The baby is a boy. At the instructions of your lawyer they've taken samples from the baby and the results should be back in a few days" Gerard noted that she looked strained.

Was the older woman hinting that the child was not his? However Gerard knew he was reading too much into it. He had no doubts that the baby was his.

A boy. He didn't realize how much he had hoped for one until now.

"Good. I'm glad they're both okay" he let out a breath, ready to go see Sierra and his son

However Leona didn't move.
"Premature babies have certain difficulties but the pediatrician is confident he'll be just fine" she gave him a tight smile and Gerard sensed she wanted to say something else.

"And Sierra?" He asked. Instant dread filled him as Leona kept quiet

"They're doing their best" Leona's voice shook slightly.
The silence that fell after Leona spoke was defining of the mood.

"Geri? She'll be okay. Have faith" Leo spoke trying to comfort his friend.
