" how was the first day?"

" nothing happened. Mr. Anderson was nice and his sister toured me around the building. nothing special happened.. "

she sighed on the other end of the line.

" so when does real work happen? when will you start earning? "

I rolled my eyes and I wanted to end the call..

" not until tomorrow. why? "

she sighed again.

" I didnt pay for your ticket and air fare to wait for nothing, Jamie. get your act together. "

I gasped, inwardly.

" Im starting work tomorrow, maybe field work next week. good bye "

Who does she think she is? I still cant believe my father would re-marry a woman as selfish as she is. My mother was nothing like her, she was so different and so nice. Life is so unfair. I cant even cope with my step mother's selfishness.

I breathed in as I sat on the counter sipping on coffee as I waited my turn on the bathroom. It was my second day and Sheila had told me about the things to do in the office, and I might run some errands while Im at it. It was still exciting, but the thought of my step mother is just clouding up my mind.

"what's wrong, Jame?"

Lily asked with her towel wrapped around her head and her bath robe clinging to her body. "nothing.." I mused. She knew of my problems, and there isnt any use of lying to her. She sighed "go take a shower.." she said simply and I nodded. Showers and baths make things better.

I sat on my space in the office. I had my own little work space along with five others. All the other people inside the office were nice, but most of them were busy. I arranged paper work for Sheila and she checked on me once in a while.

It was a quiet morning, busier at noon. I was sent to get Mr. Anderson's lunch, which was of course nothing new to me. Being an intern was like that. It wasnt cliche but I guess it was just how things work. I

There were boutiques and box shops around the area. And Sheila told me that her brother particularly likes Savory Chicken for lunch. I walked two more blocks and I turned right with the help of directions. I arrived at an old chinese themed shop, with a fair amount of people eating inside.

The bell rang as I entered and the smell of roast chicken and bean soup was amazing. I ordered what Mr. Anderson asked for and added my order too. Service was quick and it was such a nice place, I wish I could stay for some chinese tea but I have to get lunch for the boss.

I was heading back, with two paper bags on both my arms. I loved the smell coming from them, I cant wait to devour my meal. I was just about to cross the street, not knowing there was a car speeding towards my direction. Luckily enough, I stepped back fast enough to avoid being hit.

The car however, stopped with its brakes screeching so loud. I stared at the dark vehicle and someone shouted from inside "Watch where you're going!" a male voice said and I frowned "Sorry!" I shouted back but the car was on its way.

Lunch was over and I was back to arranging the list of customers for next week, until Mr. Anderson emerged from his office and walked towards me. I looked up at him and he was holding some envelope in his hands. "these are the pictures your friend Lilian sent me a month ago." he said and I reached out for it.

The envelope contained some of my printed work, consisting of pictures from my old university to some random pictures of people and structures. He cleared his throat "you should go out and take more pictures, around London or anywhere. Then print them out for me and we'll see how things go from there." he said with a smile.

I beamed at him. This definately makes up for my almost accident awhile ago. I gave him a nod "of course! I'd do it right away, and on the weekend.. " I said to him, overjoyed. He chuckled "Alright. See you tomorrow, Ms. Silver." he told me returning to his office. Lily was right, the man was nice.
