Chapter 9 part 2
Cathy's POV
It's so easy to fool people who are close to you. I know I probably shouldn't be doing this, but what can I say? I don't want them worrying about me. Dad has enough on his plate and Taylor, well he has so many other patients, I figure he should have at least one that seems to progress. If he knew my true thoughts he would be unhappy. I guess that's why I keep them to myself. I want him to be happy. Some people would say I'm hurting this I love and being selfish, but to those people I say ha! They have no idea what it's like to live with the burden of my life of my shoulders.
So why don't you give it over to God? One might ask. To answer them would be simple, I'm too far gone for that. H can't save me. A lot of His children even said so, wouldn't they know? I'd like to think so. Their words brand me a prostitute just as if I had the word engraved into my skin. It's written on my heart. I can't change it, so why bother?
As dreary as my life may sound, I keep my head held high. They don't need to see me fall. They don't need anymore to mock me with.
How did this happen you were doing so well? Some might ask. Well, it started when Annabelle True came into the restaurant where I work with her three kids. Annabelle was one of the wives of one of the men that I... Well you know... They divorced after Annabelle found out, and it was one of the more nasty disputes that I caused. I felt awful, but at the time there was nothing I could do.
Anyway, she came in with her kids, looked at me and said, "How dare you show your face in this town!"
"Well I live here, so it's kinda hard not to." I said, my voice laced with just as much venom as hers. She looked shocked that I actually spoke to her. It seemed to her that I shouldn't have that right.
"Let me talk with your manager." She said her eyes freezing over. I knew she was going to pull that, but thankfully I was her.
"You're looking at her." Her eyes almost bulged out of her head.
"What! They let a lowlife like you manage a fine establishment like this?" She said waving her arms around like a chicken.
"Apparently" I muttered. It was hard to not let her get to me. I really wanted to punch that pretty mouth of hers.
"Fine then, let me talk to the owners." She hissed stomping her foot. I looked around and everyone was staring, including the owners and when our eyes met, Mr. Sergio came forward.
"Ma'am what seems to be the problem here?" He asked standing slightly in front of me, a protective stance.
"You know what she is? What she's done?"Annabelle screeched.
"Ma'am Cathy is a girl who needed work and she's been a gem here since I've hired her. You might have had a rough encounter with her, but that doesn't mean she is who she was at your last meeting." I admired the way he put that. It was a graceful way of saying 'yeah I know, but she's worked hard to get past it. Leave it be'. I appreciated my job now more than ever.
"Oh so she sleeping with you too. Is that how she got the job? I thought this was a family restaurant, but I guess not!" Annabelle said. Ht anger coursed through me. That was such a low blow!
"I inform you miss that she got the job fair and square. If you don't trust her integrity then at least trust mine. I have only slept with one woman and that is my wife!" He fiercely defended himself.
"Just keep telling yourself that, it makes the guilt easier." Annabelle threw back at him.
"Leave now and do not return!" He was shaking with anger and I knew he was about to lose it. Thankfully before more was said she left.
