Under a Danish spell

"A new kid?"
"A newbie?!?"
"Someone else..."

Word spreads around a high school classroom like fire spreads through dry grass. Once words are out, there's no way you're going to hear the end of it until it's over of course. I didn't think much of it until that bastard walked in. His first word. That stupid, Danish first word was the word that turned my world upside down.
"Hej!" He shouted, tearing into the room like a stupidly excited puppy. And to think of all the first impressions he could've chosen.
"Honestly Mathias, a single word and already they're all sick of you." A platinum blond, less energetic boy follows soon after. One that actually seems alright but they both have accents so different to ours.
"Kaia you already seem to be falling for them." Ella, my best friend, assumes.
"What?! Hell no!" I shout in reply, sticking to my single, straight-forward, strict rule of life.

DO NOT FALL IN LOVE.

Pretty easy to remember, right?
"Well you can't seem to keep your eyes off him." As Ella says the last word, she points to Mathias.
"How can I not? Ella he just walked into the class and shouted hello in danish. Last time I checked that was quite hard to ignore." I retort, still finding myself glaring at the blond boy who's hair has been styled rather...particularly, let's say.
"He seems to be really close friends with that other guy." Ella observes as the two boys begin to introduce themselves to a group of girls who don't seem as interested as we do. After all, if I recall they're in the Ace Rickmans fan club or whatever they're called.
"They seem like a big deal." I utter under my breath.
"I don't understand how that can be so close to each other." Ella then asks herself but I turn to her, a confused frown forming on my face.
"What do you mean? Maybe they've just been friends since childhood like us." I explain.
"No. I heard they're from two completely different countries!" This certainly picks at my curiosity but I leave it, not even sure if I want to say anything to him.
"Yeah but you're from Australia, Ella. I'm just from here in boring old Mikita."
"Correction: I was from Australia."

Back when we were kids, Ella had a thick Australian accent that was rather hard to ignore but now she just sounds like us. I guess accents fade.
"I wonder if Mathias' and what's-his-name's accents will fade." I wonder. Ella shrugs and shakes her head.
"It depends on how long they're staying I guess." Our attention returns to the new classmates only to find them looking back at us from across the class. His vibrant blue eyes gleaming at me like his smile.

DO NOT FALL IN LOVE.
