It's Not Goodbye (Zera And Mavis Fan Fic)

chapter 11

    The picnic was perfect, the sun hanging high in the sky, birds chirping softly from the trees, a gentle breeze blowing. I couldn't ask for a better day. we had gone through about half the bottle of champagne. She was leaning against me a small smile stuck on her lips, a gentle pink across her cheeks.
"Are you enjoying yourself?" I ask quietly a little self conscious at my inexperience.
She nods her answer leaning into me more, looking up to me with her glowering green eyes. I couldn't take my eyes off of her lips. I slowly wrap my arm around her waist pulling her closer bending down to her height. My heart beating a million miles an hour, I'm actually going to kiss her, no one to stop me this time. As our lips conceded I felt butterflies fill my stomach, the gently soft lips moving in time with mine, the feeling could make me faint but I pushed on taking control of the kiss. I lean her onto her back, hovering over her breaking the kiss slowly. Both of us are out of breath trying to get our breathing under control. She looked so cute, her emerald eyes looking up at me lost in the feeling. 

     All of a sudden I heard a snap of a branch. I looked up just in time to see a ball of ice screaming towards us, I grabbed Mavis rolling us out of the way of danger making her letting out a noise of surprise by the suddenness of it.

    "look at this, two fairies. this shouldn't be too hard." 

     His words made me stop dead in my tracks, he can see her? as I was caught in my thoughts I noticed him readying his next attack. I grabbed hold of Mavis' hand making a b line for my bike. The man smirks aiming at it, shards of ice slam into the fuel tank detonating it causing shards of metal to arc through the sky. I gasped as a shard lodged itself into my shoulder, I growl from the pain but fight through it rushing for the forest, as long as we can hide we will be safe, I thought to myself. 

"run, Ill even give you a head start, I oh so love a chase!" The man bellows.

     I didn't stop running till we were deep into the forest. I was panting trying to figure out how far away from Magnolia we were. 

"zero..." Her voice was so quiet that I almost missed it, in my panic. I look over to mavis who was worried staring at something. I looked at what she was looking at. My eyes open wide to notice how bad my wound actually is. I gulped as I leaned against a tree taking a deep breath. 

I gave her a weak smile, "don't worry, Gray hits harder than this." I chuckle as I rip off my sleeve taking deep breaths. I knew I had to pull it out if we wanted a chance to make it out alive. "I need to know mavis, who was that."

     "I don't know, truly I've never met him before."

"then how could he see you?" my breath becoming labored, as I get ready to pull the piece of metal out. 

    "maybe......." she starts before stopping. "not that's impossible...."

    "fine you can tell me later, but I need you to listen. If i black out from the pain I-" I grimace trying to put on a brave face for her, " I need you to run, and don't look back."

the look of shocked that crossed her face made me look away, "No! i cant do that, anything but-"

"Listen!" I near yell making her stop mid sentence, "he can see you, and if i'm out cold it will take you even longer to back to the guild, so you will need to run, run as fast as you can and bring Gray back here to give this man the beating he deserves." As I spoke I could feel my voice slowly start to loose its resolve and brave face I had mustered. "please Mavis. For me...."

     We were quiet for a long time, that's when tears welled in her eyes.  I took a deep breath before gripping the piece of my bike and tugging slowly. I cry out in pain as it the shard slowly makes it way out of the wound. As I feel it come free I throw it away quickly away and tying off the wound with the scrap of cloth. With my lower lip quivering from the pain I gave Mavis one last smile, "see that wasn't so...." Before I could finish the sentence the world started to spin, and the world went dark.
