It's Not Goodbye (Zera And Mavis Fan Fic)

    I felt light, as If I could float away on the wind. that's when I felt getting nudged, It was hard to open my eyes, I just barely got them open and saw Mavis and Wendy above me. I shut them again.

    I awoke with a shock sitting up quickly panting softly I looked around the room. I was in the infirmary of fairy tail. Sun was pouring through the window and I was alone, I clutched my chest feeling the sting, I looked down to find my torso covered in bandages, some of them stained red. I fought to get my breathing slowly under control. "did I die....?" The pain answered that question for me, I felt tears drip down my face, I was that close to never waking up again, to never seeing Mavis again.......  I slowly slip out of bed. When I try to put pressure on my legs they almost get out. The pain wracking my body was just getting worst but I didn't care. I needed to know what was going on. That's when I heard the door open and a pink haired woman entered the room.

    "you shouldn't be out of bed child. You have been gravely wounded, If it wasn't for Wendy's quick thinking we would have lost you." Fairy tails doctor, Porlyusica spoke in her grandmotherly tone.

    I shake my head Not able to keep the pain from crossing my face as I talked, "wheres Mavis"

    She shook her head looking at me distastefully, "downstairs, though I will not permit you leaving this room, If you want I can go get her." I nod as she turns to leave, "all of you are so idiotic at times. It makes me worry about the future sometimes....." she closed the door behind herself. As soon as I was alone I collapsed on the bed, I barely was able to keep her safe, what good am I? 

    The door to the room opened with a thunderous thud and I heard tiny feet rushing across the room and take flight at the edge of the bed. I felt Mavis' weight connect with me causing knives to cut through my body. "O-ow" I mustered through gritted teeth. That's when I finally heard it. The quiet sobs from the person right beside me. he hands were balled into fists against my chest, Though I knew i was just the replacement of Zera. I stroked the back of your head just trying to comfort her at this point. We spent hours just holding each other, she slowly shifted in my arms, before I knew it her lips had found mine, I kissed back instinctively wrapping my arms around her small frame, She pressed her body against mine pushing me back against the bed before breaking the kiss.

    "i-I'm so sorry for what dragging you into this...." she whimpered out.

    "don't apologize.... I'm happy to have met you...." I sigh, "how long have I been out....?"

    "a month..... we lost you several times over that span....." She buries her head into my chest trying to dry the tears that couldn't stop falling. "I thought I lost you again......"
    "again?" I asked a little perplexed.

    "I know you're Zera from another world." she said, the words being muffled in my shirt.

    This took my breath away, She knew? then why was she like this? I wasn't the person she knew, I just happened to have her memories yet.....

    "and I know whats going through your head, your wondering why I'm still acting like this" she looks away placing a hand on one of her cheeks trying to hide her blush "the past month,the chance encounter on the beach, getting to know you and the wild world you come from. The few nights we spent together..... Feeling how warm and soft you were, I loved every minute of it even though I knew that you weren't her, but in a way you are. You're both strong, even though sometimes you show that weaker side. Then when you planned that date," she sighed contently, "it was beautiful. I couldn't have asked for a better date even though it ended like it did....... And I ended up getting you hurt......" Her voice was wavering near the end. I reached out taking her hand in mine.

    "please don't blame yourself..... were in this together aren't we?" I ask as I squeezed her hand. She just barely moved her head to answer my question. we sat in the silence for a long while, just enjoying each others company.

    I cant believe she actually likes me, but whats next? someone from another nation just tried to kill the two of us. And he said he was just a scout.... Is a war coming? I looked at Mavis. Her emerald eyes staring out the window looking as if she was pondering one of life's great mysteries, I knew deep down I wanted to protect her. And I knew that feeling was shared by both me and Zera.

    I gulp before speaking up,  "do you know who attacked us?"

      "the island nation of Aldonia. they always wanted to have a foothold on the mainland but I didn't think they would resort to attacking us....."

   "If a fight breaks out between Fiore and them I'm going to fight by your side Mavis." I say in a serious tone holding her hand  tighter.

    "in your state? There's no way. just think about-"

    "no. I cant just sit on the side lines if your home is in danger. Like you said were from different worlds but fairy tail has become just as much my home. l couldn't just sit back and watch everyone else fight.

    It took me another week to get on my feet, there still wasn't any word of any fights breaking out but stress was running high in the guild. I was sitting at the bar when I felt my sleeve being pulled, I looked to see Mavis standing there with a serious expression across her face, "I need your help with something Zero."

    I nodded without questioning it, I walked out of the guild hall following her into the forest, to a small clearing where a ruined building stood, she turned to face me. "were going to another kingdom to see if we can form an alliance in case Aldonia attacks, I want you to be my mouth piece."

    "alright how are we going to get there?" I ask stretching slightly expecting to have to run there, Though I grimaced slightly my wounds having not healed properly. "I'm going to make a portal so we can cross the distance near instantly. I found it in a old book in the archives."

     "ready when you are Mavis." I reply.

     She took a deep breath holding both of her palms outstretched words being spoken so low that I couldn't make them out. The wind around us picked up in intensity I had to shield my eyes from the debris that was being picked up. That's when there was a blinding flash of light, Just like the one that brought me here. She stood to the side showing a glowing doorway, "you have to go in first, as soon as I step through it will close." I quickly hurried to pass through it to not put much strain on her when I felt her put something in my pocket and a gentle push on my back.

    I fell through the doorway and I was blinded till the pavement on the other side rushed to greet me, I hit it with a muted thud. I let out a groan as I slowly sat up taking in my surroundings. My eyes widened in disbelief. I was in the heart of Tokyo, Exactly where I was when the lightning storm hit. But more importantly the portal was gone and Mavis wasn't in sight. I looked around trying to figure out what she did, those passing me not saying a word but watching with curiosity, I could feel the pangs of pain rip through me, Why Mavis? Why did you send me back? those thoughts echoing through my head. That's when I remember she stuffed something into my pocket I pulled out the now crumpled piece of paper, Mavis' pen men ship covering almost the entire page, as well as stains from where someone has cried.

    Zero,

       I know you must be a mess with emotions right now, just as I am writing this. I ask you to read what I have to say carefully. there is a war coming to Fiore, everyone knows it and are preparing for it. But, I can't drag you into it. It wouldn't be fair. As much as you say your apart of this world, you came from another. One you need to get back to and live a fulfilling life, I couldn't stand loosing you again. I understand if you hate me after this, I wouldn't blame you. This is a terrible thing for me to do. I hope one day we meet again, even though its an empty thought I truly mean it. Please stay safe.

    Tears fell freely from my cheeks onto the page as I crumpled onto my knees pressing the note to my chest. I felt a hand press against my back, I looked up to see my best friend Takeshi staring down at me shocked to be seeing me, "Zero whats wrong?" I couldn't answer him, I had just lost the one thing I really treasured in this world. Mavis, Why did you do this?

A\N: when I first started writing this story I didn't know about the Alvarez story arc so if they're are any similarities I swear it wasn't intentional
