Chapter 28: Darkness Takes Over

Anxiety gets the best of me when I notice that Trey is picking his food. It must be a real big revelation if it makes Trey McGarthy nervous.

"Trey..", I rest my hand on top of his.

"I'm sorry, I don't know why exactly am I nervous. Can I just make a real quick trip to the washroom though? I'll tell it all as soon as I come back."

I nod with a smile. He returns the smile before going to the washroom.

Just when I'm waiting for Trey to return, my phone buzzes. It's a multimedia message from an unknown number. Weird!

Life is sucked out of me when I play the video. It is Trey and he.. he's kissing a red head. I have no idea of who the sender is but if what I'm seeing is true, Trey has lots of explaining to do.

I play the video on repeat, it hits me harder every time. My phone buzzes again and this time it's a text message from the same number;

"Thought you'd want to see what your Mr. Perfect has been doing during his recent trip to Tokyo before you make your mind up about him. Xx!"

What? Tokyo? I could've dealt with this if it was during our breakup or before he met me, but his recent trip to Tokyo? While we were still together? He.. he cheated on me.

Tears start pooling in my eyes. I don't get it.. why? Why would he do this?

When I look up, I find Trey looking at me with grim expressions. After a few seconds, he walks towards me and puts a hand on my shoulder. I jerk away.

"What.. what happened?", he asks.

I simply play the video and hand the phone to him.

"Alex..", he says after watching the video.

"Is this real?", I ask, my voice barely a whisper.

"Alex.. this-"

"Is this real, Trey?", I turn towards him and ask. "You say yes, it's yes. You say no, it's no. No questions asked. Is this real?"

"Yes, yes it is real but Alex.."

"When did it happen?", I ask.

"Listen to me, Alex-"

"When?"

"While I was in Tokyo this past week."

A tear rolls down my cheek, "Who is she?"

He sighs before responding, "Her name is Louise."

And that's all that I have to hear before my world comes shattering down in pieces. Louise. The girl Trey liked in high school. He still has feelings for her..

"Alex, listen to me."

"You still like her, don't you? Your high school crush.."

"Who told you that?"

"How does it matter? The point here is that you cheated on me with her. You were probably never over her.", I say and start running out of the restaurant. Trey starts chasing me. I'm aware of all the attention we're getting but right now I just need to get away from him.

"Alex..", Trey catches up and grips my wrist. "I don't like her.. she doesn't even matter to me anymore."

"She doesn't?"

"No."

"Fine, let's see.", I say and start walking towards the reception area of the restaurant. "Hello, I had a question regarding whether or not my friend is in the VIP guest list. Can you please check it for me?"
